Under general supervision, incumbent will be responsible for managing all aspects of human subject clinical research on mental illness, sleep, and successful aging in a busy, dynamic, cutting edge laboratory within the Department of Psychiatry. The position requires expertise in IRB paperwork, coordination of research studies and laboratory resources, overseeing recruitment and cognitive assessments, coordinating sleep studies, and training other members of the lab. Responsible for independent preparation and design of study, protocols, tracking data and data analysis, make significant innovative contributions towards research goals and independently perform experiments making technical determinations and/or observations related to research and pertaining to the design and overall direction of research projects and proposes possible changes or new directions when appropriate; Present data in meetings, coordinate studies with collaborators; Must be able to assist with other projects and miscellaneous duties as required.

• Theoretical knowledge in psychiatry, psychology generally acquired through a Bachelor's degree OR equivalent combination of education and experience including lab experience.

• Demonstrated experience conducting research using sleep data collection OR demonstrated experience undertaking research projects in collaboration with academic supervisors making innovative contributions pertaining to sleep studies.

• Extensive experience in research technical procedures, including cleaning wearable data.

• Extensive experience with recruiting participants with serious mental illnesses. Previous work experience with or openness to working with older patients.

• Advanced knowledge, skills, and abilities in designing, creating and organizing research projects, under general direction.

• Proven ability to design and engage in difficult and complex research projects making significant innovative contributions pertaining to the design and overall direction of research routine and specialized techniques.

• Demonstrated experience overseeing the conduct of research studies including treatments, testing, data collection, and preliminary analysis. Proven ability to use Epic Access to check lab results.

• Demonstrated experience modifying or adapting standard procedures to meet the needs of specific research projects, as well as study available literature and analyze/alter protocols to reach optimal experimental conditions.

• Demonstrated ability and knowledge to train employees in sleep data collection and pre-processing.

• Solid computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email system, and a variety of web-based programs. Demonstrated ability to create and maintain databases, perform standard computer tasks, learn new programs/applications with minimal direction, and exercise fast and accurate data entry skills. Demonstrated commitment to update/maintain technology skills with relevant computer software.

• Demonstrated experience to independently execute behavioral and neurophysiological experiments with human subjects.

• Proven ability to express verbally or in writing, information on one's position, plan of action, evaluation or interpretation in a professional, logical, clear, effective, concise, and courteous manner. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to use tact and diplomacy with psychiatric patients, their families, faculty and institutional staff, as well as when representing the agency in the community.

• Demonstrated experience consulting with academic supervisors on the nature and plan of approach to research problems and contributing original ideas.

• Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

• Excellent organization skills and demonstrated ability to maintain accurate data records from detailed observation of experimentation, and to transcribe precise, cogent results for possible scientific journal publication.

• Proven ability to effectively communicate with a diverse population.

• Demonstrated experience with psychological testing and structured interviewing techniques: diagnosis (DSM-IV criteria), comprehension assessment, PANSS, SAPS and SANS, cognitive battery (e.g., HVLT, Trail Making Test, MATRICS), qualitative aspects of research participation, HAM-D, and SF-36.

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team framework in conjunction with principles of community with other staff members, students, faculty and scientists. Proven skill and knowledge to collaborate with colleagues. Proven ability to effectively participate and contribute to discussions regarding procedures and goals of the research and lab.

• Proven knowledge of purchasing, receiving, storing, distributing, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.

• Demonstrated experience with general lab maintenance including scheduling and coordinating repairs, or replacement, as well as personally make minor repairs as needed.

• Demonstrated knowledge of MATLAB software and programming.

• Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

• Must be able to work flexible hours such as evenings and weekends if required.

• Must be willing to work with both a psychiatric population and an elderly research population.

• Access to reliable form of transportation and must be willing to travel off-site to conduct assessments.

• Must be willing to travel to laboratory and board and care residential homes.

• Training in the responsible conduct of human research.
