DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you are responsible for supervising inmates and maintaining proper security while ensuring work is performed under safe operating procedures. Duties include reading and interpreting gauges, meters, and sensing devices, as well as cleaning and maintaining equipment. Also, you provide heat and hot water for institutional needs by maintaining boiler operations, including generation of medium pressure steam.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40-hour work week
  • Work hours are 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, with rotating days off.
  • These positions are eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
