Stanley Consultants is looking for a Mechanical Engineer with facility design experience to join one of our offices.

The successful candidate must be knowledgeable in mechanical system design for diverse project types. Building mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, steam, hydronic heating and cooling, and compressed air, along with a basic understanding of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and ability to write sequence of operations for building systems. Project types include renovations and new construction. Design tasks include general arrangements, piping and ductwork layout, and equipment selections while working with equipment / manufacturer representatives. Work focuses primarily on these services; central heating and cooling plants, campus utility distribution systems, industrial/process facilities, power, and other infrastructure projects. The projects are large and small; local, nationwide, and possible worldwide; and for industrial, higher education, utility, federal, and municipal clients.

The senior mechanical engineer role is responsible for determining the technical approach, validating the design criteria, directing more junior staff, and reviewing and / or performing detailed design tasks such as calculations, specifications, and drawing preparation, as needed. This person must coordinate with others on multidiscipline design team and prepare high quality deliverables. This individual will be expected to perform design duties with minimal supervision and have ability to communicate within a team environment. This opportunity offers interaction with a variety of clients in multiple markets, with the possibility of working on international projects.

This position is for a candidate with 8-15 years of experience performing functions which require the application of standard mechanical engineering techniques, procedures and criteria in performing a sequence of related engineering tasks. You will work as a design engineer or discipline lead depending on the size and complexity of the project with mentoring opportunities for building project management skills and capabilities on a variety of projects. You must have experience in state or federal building design, university central plants, industrial facilities, mission critical facilities, or related fields. Work is expected to include new building design, existing building retrofits and upgrades (such as HVAC or plumbing systems), industrial/process facilities, and other energy infrastructure projects. The projects will vary in size and location.


What You Will Be Doing:

  • Serves as technical liaison with clients on project efforts and coordinates technical efforts within discipline areas. Participate in mechanical design development from conceptual design through detailed design, this includes coordinating with other team or project members including other disciplines (architectural, structural, electrical, civil, and I&C)
  • Prepare and check design computations for system design, equipment and pipe sizing, and determining conditions of service
  • Project experience as a task lead, project engineer, or project manager is a plus.
  • Consults with construction personnel concerning design constructability as related to field conditions, sequencing, and scheduling of construction activities.
  • Is in responsible charge (holds) or attends both client and construction Contractor meetings.
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents. Desirable experience in Revit, AutoCadd, Trane TRACE 3D, Caesar II, and Pipe-Flo Professional/Trane Pipe Designer.
  • Candidate will be expected to lead and mentor less experienced engineers and designers through the design process.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Department Manager or Project Manager




Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from and ABET accredited College or University with 8-10 years of experience.
  • P.E. Licensure and willingness to get licensed in additional states is required
  • Ability to travel approximately 5-10% of the time (domestic and international).
  • Candidate should be familiar with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with ProjectWise or similar enterprise content management tools is a plus.
  • Energy modeling experience preferred but not required.
  • AABC CxA certification preferred but not required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing HVAC systems, plumbing systems, central utility plants, and mechanical distribution systems
  • Experience using Trane Trace, Revit, Pipe-Flo, COMcheck, and/or BLCC software
  • LEED AP BD+C credential and/or GBI Guiding Principles Compliance Professional

While some members choose to work out of their local office on a full-time basis, we offer a hybrid schedule for eligible positions consisting of two days a week in the office, two days a week remotely, and Friday being a flexible day that can be worked either in the office or at home.
