What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a motivated Emergency Management Computing Infrastructure Engineer to be part of Sandia National Laboratories mission-readiness infrastructure. The selected candidate will be supporting a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility equipped with cutting-edge computing and AV systems. On a typical day, you can expect to configure and maintain advanced, networking and audio-visual systems for briefings, emergency operations center (EOC) activations, and cross-organizational coordination sessions that directly support the DOEs comprehensive emergency management framework, ensuring seamless planning, preparedness, response, and recovery activities across Sandia and interagency stakeholders. Youll troubleshoot display arrays, manage video teleconferencing infrastructure, and ensure that all response facilities, field elements, and off-site communications execute well for a common operating picture for shared situational awareness, because when an exercise or real-world incident is underway, your systems are the backbone of informed decision-making at one of the nations premier national security laboratories.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Apply systematic, disciplined, and quantifiable engineering and life cycle management techniques and processes to deliver integrated information systems hardware for mission-enabled or direct mission deployment and production.
  • Perform technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and may decide hardware and software technologies for hardware system solutions.
  • Introduce new computer systems and technologies into current configurations for optimum information systems engineering functionality.
  • Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and other domain experts such as networking, software and desktop personnel in the development and integration of hardware systems solutions.
  • Program in a scripting language such as VBS, Perl or shell scripting or programming languages such as C or C++.
  • Perform hardware systems analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting, repair and recovery, disaster recovery, software installations, systems OS and software applications upgrades and security patches, performance tuning, hardware upgrades and resource optimization, maintenance of user accounts, and training users.

This position will require you to be on call.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$74,700 - $144,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. A higher-level degree (MS, PhD) in relevant discipline may also be considered in lieu of Bachelor's degree.
  • Experienced with the following:
    • JavaScript programming language for Crestron.
    • Lua programming language for Q-SYS programming and system design.
    • Crestron Toolbox and SIMPL Windows.
  • Must have AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist certification.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire

  • Project Installation work and ability to recommend hardware, software or programming solutions
  • Advanced knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP), video routing, networking protocol and AV over IP technology
  • Hands-on experience with complex AV system troubleshooting and repair including hardware failure, network conflicts, AV system diagnostics, related firmware updates and routine inspection for preventative maintenance of complex AV systems.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and Teams Rooms
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Ability to mentor staff, collaborate with various departments and ensure seamless integration and performance of complex AV systems.
  • Active DOE Q-level security clearance or equivalent (e.g., DOD Top Secret).
About Our Team

The Emergency Management organization is responsible for protecting the workforce, public, property, and the environment from all-hazards through the implementation of all phases of emergency management: preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation. Additionally, the Emergency Management program is comprised of an integrated team of emergency management and public safety professionals dedicated to protecting life, property, environment, and Sandias reputation.

The Emergency Management organization and its partners prepare for emergencies through the development of comprehensive emergency plans and procedures and conducting training and drills. The program is validated through performance-based exercises to demonstrate emergency response capabilities and by conducting programmatic assessments as part of readiness assurance.
Sandias Emergency Management program is based on the National Incident Management System, a framework that provides shared vocabulary, systems and processes that guide how personnel work together during incidents or disasters. Emergency Management staff coordinates and collaborates with local, state, federal, and tribal governments, as well as nonprofit and private sectors for emergency preparedness and response through mutual aid agreements and other preparedness initiatives and activities.

Posting Duration

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

If offered the position, you may be required to demonstrate your fitness to perform certain physical aspects of the position, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.

Position Information

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
