Senior Engineering Project Manager

Responsible for the design, development, testing, and evaluation of integrated systems for industrial production processes, including human work factors, quality control, inventory control, logistics and material flow, cost analysis, and production coordination. Owns projects and is fully responsible for ensuring projects remain within scope, time, and budget. Provides guidance to junior team members and complex leadership on planning and executing highly complicated facility processes and construction projects.

Key Responsibilities



  • Guides and oversees major projects related to construction, renovation, major process additions, feed production, facility modifications, site modifications, rail modifications, etc.
  • Evaluates and interprets data and utilizes it to estimate production costs, cost saving methods, and the effects of product design changes on expenditures for management review, action, and control. Recommends methods for improving utilization of personnel, material, and utilities.
  • Analyzes statistical data and product specifications to establish standards and quality and reliability goals of finished products.
  • Plans and establishes sequence of operations to fabricate and assemble parts or products and to promote efficient utilization.
  • Drafts and designs layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency using drafting tools and computer.
  • Evaluates precision and accuracy of production and testing equipment and engineering drawings to formulate corrective action plan. Directs team members engaged in product measurement, inspection, and testing activities to ensure quality control and reliability.
  • Fosters effective relationships and promotes an environment of collaboration to ensure effective partnership on process improvements and performance.
  • Communicates with all internal and external partners regarding purchases, product and production specifications, design standards, manufacturing capabilities, and/or project status.
  • Oversees recording of information to ensure accuracy of engineering drawings and documentation of production problems.
  • Maintains expertise through continued development (i.e., reading, developing contacts, attending courses or trainings, etc.).


Minimum Qualifications (Educations & Experience)



  • Associate's degree in related field or equivalent
  • 8+ years of relevant experience or the knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed in the role
  • Experience in managing multi-million dollar projects with large scopes

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Experience with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National codes and standards, and other regulatory agencies (USDA)
  • Vast experience in project management and contract administration, including knowledge of production processes, raw materials, quality and cost control, contractor and vendor evaluation and selection, schedule management, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacturing and distribution of goods
  • Strong business acumen and knowledge of project and resource management methodologies, including strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, production methods, leadership techniques, coordination of people and resources, etc.
  • Understanding of statistical process control or Total Quality Management (TQM)
  • Detailed knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology with the ability to apply concepts, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
  • Knowledge of plant and equipment techniques, computer-aided design tools, and machine and tool design, use, repair, maintenance, mill construction methods, infrastructure systems, utilities, refrigeration, and electrical systems
  • Proven ability to anticipate potential problems and resolve before cost or schedule are impacted
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills with the proven ability to influence at any level
  • Proficient technology skills, including Microsoft Office, Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, Autodesk (AutoCAD) software, and project management software
  • High caliber project management skills with the proven ability to effectively guide large cross-functional project teams to achieve complex projects simultaneously with constantly changing priorities
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships and to develop data-informed strategic solutions to business need


Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • Protein manufacturing experience


Physical Demands



  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, keyboard, and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.


Working Conditions



  • Work will be performed in a variety of conditions including a climate-controlled office environment(s) and in a manufacturing plant environment with varying conditions, such as cold areas, wet areas, warm areas, chemicals, and other site conditions. This position requires the individual to wear and work in personal protective equipment while in the manufacturing environment.
  • The noise level of the office environment is usually moderate; the noise level in the manufacturing environment may exceed 85 DBA and require hearing protection.
  • Travel may be required up to 50% of the time, including extended overnight stays.
