Typical Functions:
- Ensure compliance to the oven inspection schedule through self-directed scheduling with the other facility's oven inspectors as required
- Provide oven field reports with recommended corrective actions to appropriate operating site personnel as well as the SunCoke Oven Repair Manager.
- Understanding of multiple site safety policies and procedures (work permitting, LOTO, confined space entry, fall protection)
- Provide field inspections of all ovens mechanical components including but not limited to:
- Buckstays
- Lintels
- Jambs
- Sill beams
- Benches
- Uptake Piers
- Tie Rod and Bridle Assemblies
- Spring length compliance
- Provide field inspections of all ovens refractory components including but not limited:
- Crown
- Chamber
- Sole Flue
- Uptakes
- Lintel refractory
- Jamb refractory
- Push and Coke side Benches
- Enter oven inspection data into oven repository for data analysis and work prioritization following the P3 (high priority), P2 (mid priority), P1 (observe and track) methodology.
- Review performance of oven silica welding vendors and other oven contractors
- Review and assist in the development of job plans pertaining to repetitive oven work.
- Review oven performance metrics of each site to understand "problem" ovens and corresponding site locations-Not To Exceed (NTE's) or non-conforming pushes.
- Retrieve measurements as required for deeper analysis of oven issues such as O2 measurements, draft, confirmation of temperatures, etc.
- Report this additional information to the appropriate personnel.
- Monitor carbon growth at each site during site visits and assist in the forecast of future oven decarbonizations.
- Ensure all specialty tools-repair doors, lances, platforms, and mechanical devices used in the maintenance of ovens is on site at the appropriate times pending site oven in-service dates.
- Manage projects for oven betterment and lead or participate in oven trials / experiments ensuring that the necessary documentation is in proper order including:
- Proper refractory application and Quality Assurance and Control
- Identifying hazards and safety information/requirements/permitting to safely perform tasks.
- Special instructions and required documentation such as procedures, photos, MOC, PSSR, MSDS, etc.
- Identifying the required skill crafts and duration of repair work
- Proper request of stores or purchase order for necessary components
- Provide estimate of the total job costs for operations approval.
- Manage oven, common tunnel, stack, and supporting structure repair crews.
- Perform periodic "quality" field audits of developed oven job plans and provide necessary feedback to update the plans as required. Including shop fabrication visits for oven repair components such as lintels and oven doors.
- Participate in oven related reliability improvement meetings, Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA's) and projects
- The work setting will range from office to extreme outdoor plant conditions.
Education Requirements / Work Experience:
7 years of work experience in a coke oven or equivalent environment (calciners, glass furnace, refining, etc.).
Previous supervisory experience / contractor management is preferred.
Working knowledge of refractory and refractory applications
Familiarity with handheld computer technologies.
Working knowledge of Excel data analysis functions.
Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Monitoring Systems (Maximo) work order, inventory and purchase requisition functions.
Ability to effectively present inspection results and recommended corrective actions in internal meetings.
Certifications:
FLIR Level 1 certification desired
