Function:

Engineering and Engineering Services Job Summary:The Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer provides technical expertise and engineering support for electrical power systems, instrumentation, and control systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation. The role supports Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and EHS&S by improving equipment reliability and developing and maintaining electrical and instrumentation standards and best practices. The E&I Engineer supports capital projects by developing scope and providing technical input for E&I portions of multidisciplinary projects, as well as standalone E&I projects, and collaborates with engineering teams, maintenance personnel, and contractors to support daytoday plant needs and longterm improvement initiatives. Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate within the Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering group and across Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, and EHS&S to support safe, reliable plant operation.
  • Provide technical support for electrical power distribution systems from low voltage through medium voltage (up to 34.5 kV), including switchgear, motor control centers, transformers, protective relays, and associated equipment.
  • Support instrumentation and control systems, including transmitters, analyzers, flow, level, gas detection, and safety instrumented systems.
  • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve electrical and instrumentation equipment issues, including troubleshooting, testing, commissioning, and repair activities to improve on stream reliability.
  • Develop electrical and instrumentation scope for capital and maintenance funded projects and provide technical input from concept through construction and startup; serve as E&I discipline lead when assigned.
  • Prepare, review, and approve engineering designs, specifications, equipment data sheets, construction packages, cost estimates, and third-party engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, CF specifications, and constructability requirements.
  • Participate in and lead engineering design reviews to ensure modifications meet safety, reliability, and operability expectations.
  • Develop, maintain, and ensure accuracy of electrical and instrumentation documentation, including one-line diagrams, P&IDs, loop drawings, schematics, logic diagrams, and specifications, and ensure documents reflect as built conditions.
  • Support turnarounds, shutdowns, PHAs, LOPAs, and incident investigations, including follow up and closure of assigned action items.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation, effective prioritization, sound decision making, and a commitment to continuous learning of industry standards and best practices.
  • Support the corporate EHS&S Policy by integrating applicable requirements into engineering programs.
  • Continuously identify and implement opportunities to improve site safety.

Internal Controls:

Understands and complies with established departmental processes and procedures that support internal control efforts. Identifies and reports internal control deficiencies to department management.

Successful incumbents will have:

  • B.S. in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution, Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Three or more years of hands on, in plant experience (permanent or periodic temporary assignments).
  • Five or more years of engineering experience in oil, gas, or chemical manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of electrical power distribution systems, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Experience executing electrical and instrumentation capital projects is preferred.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and modifying electrical drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with DCS and PLC systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with personnel at all levels. Strong leadership and management skills, including team leadership, independent decision making, and prioritization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Ability to remain drug and alcohol free, including random and for cause testing.
