Up to 29 Hours | Flexible schedule to meet department needs.Anticipated Schedule: Monday through Thursday: 8:30am - 3pm (30-minute unpaid lunch), and Fridays: 8am - 12pm.


Position Summary

The Career Resource Assistant provides assistance to community members, students and alumni who are conducting a job search or seeking resources related to career advancement or skills development. This position is based in the McHenry County Workforce Center, located in Woodstock, Illinois, and may be asked to travel occasionally to McHenry County College's (MCC) campus for meetings and/or events.


Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and organizing of the McHenry County Workforce Center's Career Resource Room
  • Guide volunteers and individuals conducting job searches, resource collection, and making use of the Center's computers and software applications
  • Maintain regular communication with the MCC's Workforce Development team and participate in departmental meetings as appropriate
  • Assist with maintaining a comprehensive resource library by collecting, organizing, reviewing, classifying, and updating/purging career planning materials, business cards, reference books, and catalogs, as needed
  • Assist customers and instructors in locating materials, both hard copy and electronic
  • Conduct Career Resource Room orientations to demonstrate the use of Center materials, which include, but are not limited to: written materials and computer terminals, including various software and internet sites dedicated to career development and advancement
  • Identify resources for program coordination, and refer customers to transportation systems, childcare providers, local support services and agencies for basic need resources
  • Disseminate information regarding the services, programs, and classes offered at McHenry County College
  • Maintain demographic information, resource usage log, and review statistical reports
  • Maintain working relations on both the McHenry County Workforce Center, Woodstock, and the McHenry County College campuses
  • Support MCC's Adult Education program and McHenry County Workforce Center with Adult Education class enrollment and testing at the Center
  • Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities
  • Refer clients to partner agencies
  • Support Adult Education with referrals and registration appointments
  • Coordinate on-site hiring events, including scheduling the companies that attend
  • Schedule community members online for their workshops
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • One year customer service
  • Internet job search capabilities

Desired Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and strong typing skills
  • Ability to learn new technological applications
  • Ability to work well with a variety of personalities and to establish relationships with colleagues and community members
  • Willingness to work in a dynamic environment and the ability to be receptive and responsive to changing goals, needs and priorities
  • Ability to work in a high-quality, focused service environment with excellent organizational skills and a professional manner
  • Demonstrate and possess a strong understanding of cultural competency and able to communicate effectively to different audiences
  • Ability to deliver clear, compelling presentations in front of an audience
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Understanding of career development best principles and terminology
  • Attention to detail
  • Provide basic technical support related to presentations, meeting and/or other audio-visual needs
  • Demonstrate sound problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Organize and display resources within the Center
