Job Summary

Colaska is seeking an individual to fill the PMA Mill Operator position based at our North Pole, AK location within the Emulsion Products. The PMA Mill Operator is responsible for the production of polymer modified asphalt that meet customer demand, schedules, and within specification. This role maintains the operation and maintenance of the PMA mill as well as conduct basic preventative and specific maintenance on equipment (hot oil heater, tanks, pumps, motors, etc.) within the plant. Will work with hazardous chemicals and materials, including but not limited to corrosive material and hot liquid asphalt.Maintains a production schedule and ensure that the product is produced within the scheduled timelines and to the required specifications.

The position typically works from 7:00am - 6:00pm Monday through Saturday from mid-April through September.

Main Responsibilities
  • Perform PMA production, including troubleshooting of production operations and formula verification
  • Work well with numbers, calculations, fluids, hot materials, pumps, etc.
  • Perform all Terminal tasks and activities including fluid loading/unloading, fluid transport, vessel storage, and transport truck staging in a safe manner
  • Must be able to climb transport and vertical tanks by means of safety ladders
  • Must be able to learn safe operation of forklifts, skid-steer, loader, and transport trucks.
  • Ability to arrive at work within the specified times; working varying schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays with little to no notice due to production demands
  • Ability to adapt to the safety culture including participation in required/necessary safety training, wearing required PPE, safe work habits, and contributing to the continued growth and success of company's safety culture
  • Responsible for all other duties, roles and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor(s) or General Manager
Skills
  • Ability to navigate Windows and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams) and other web-based programs.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret specifications, scale tickets, ADOT regulations and environmental laws and all required certifications.
  • It is necessary to be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • High degree of reasoning ability and problem-solving skills. Flexible in adapting to changing needs, detail oriented and adept at analytical problem solving. Demonstrate independence in problem solving and the ability to arrive at solutions that meet company goals and objectives.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a professional to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The individual is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle objects and feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and balance. Individual may be required to perform all of these actions while being exposed to a variety of weather conditions, including inclement weather and extreme heat and cold. The individual may need to lift up to 50 pounds.

Education & Additional Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED or Job-Related Experience
  • Join the local Teamsters Union upon hire, if not already a union member.
  • Applicant must have the ability to interact with others and positively influence their behavior in an organized manner while managing multiple daily activities between production, yard, and other duties.
  • Ability to write and speak clearly and effectively to all levels of employees, both individually and in large groups.
  • Maintains the ability to complete reports, inspections and presentations that are required on time and correctly.
  • Must be a self-motivated and can set deadlines and adhere to them.
