HDR is looking for an Office Principal for our Greenville, SC office. This individual will be responsible for growing and managing our Greenville office and will report to the South Carolina Area Manager. A strong understanding of the engineering design and construction management business is required. Technical areas of knowledge include site/civil, transportation, water and natural resources, solid waste, power/energy, and industrial. Responsibilities will include business development, client management, project delivery, staff management, and office management. The Office Principal needs to be the "face of HDR in the Greenville marketplace" and therefore, have a solid track record in the Greenville area to understand market drivers, community groups' activities, and position HDR for success. They will be instrumental in ensuring that local business development activities are tailored to achieve local growth objectives and client satisfaction. They will also be expected to forecast annual fee goals. Office and staff management skills are paramount to ensure that HDR is achieving desired business metrics including sales, utilization, earnings, and profit. They will also lead by example in following HDR's operational policies and procedures, such as strong adherence to our quality and safety programs. In addition to having a high business acumen, the Office Principal must be highly skilled in qualitative / human elements such as providing high morale, energy, and a sense of excitement to daily job activities.

In this role, we'll count on you to:
  • Lead development, implementation, and monitoring of office operating plan and budget.
  • Actively participate in development and implementation of the strategic plan for department development and growth in cooperation with business groups, marketing and operational management.
  • Serve as a company representative in business and the community.
  • Support activities of personnel within a department to provide high-quality services and to achieve or exceed plan results.
  • Establish and monitor office procedures, processes and adherence to corporate and company policies, project contractual terms, and quality control procedures.
  • Work cooperatively with and inform regional and area operations managers, business group directors and marketing managers in client development, marketing, key staffing needs and conduct of services.
  • Own the office planning guide process and take actions necessary to meet operational goals within office sizing, seating and space.
  • Support hiring, performance evaluation, staff development, training and recognition.
  • Maintain key client relationships and occasionally serve as Project Principal, Project Manager, or other critical project delivery roles.
  • Communicate, implement, monitor and enforce company policies within the department.
  • Participate in Area quality assurance of project quality control procedures, risk management reviews, business reviews and dispute resolution activities.

  • Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Maintains a professional Engineering or Architecture registration and has extensive related technical management experience
  • 10 years of related experience
  • Local candidate preferred

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • Outstanding leadership, communication and team-building skills
  • Experienced in management and development of diverse teams
  • Work cooperatively with company operations managers, business group and technical directors and marketing managers on departmental efforts
  • Committed to quality, improvement and promoting HDR values
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
