The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) responsible for leading Husky's operational strategy and execution across Terminal Operations, Maintenance & Repair (M&R), Terminal Services, Safety, Labor Relations, Security, and the Management Resource Center (MRC). Partnering closely with the CEO, the COO drives long-term strategy while ensuring best-in-class performance in safety, productivity, efficiency, and customer service.

This is a highly visible, results-driven leadership role requiring a decisive, people-focused executive who can lead complex, unionized operations in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment. The COO will build organizational capability, drive accountability, and deliver measurable performance improvements while aligning operations with broader business objectives.

  • Lead all terminal operations, including vessel, yard, gate, rail/intermodal, MRC, M&R, terminal services, safety and security.
  • Develop and execute operational strategies to deliver industry-leading safety, productivity, and service performance.
  • Build and lead a high-performing leadership team, driving accountability and alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Drive continuous improvement through disciplined performance management, KPI tracking, and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Ensure high equipment reliability and asset performance through effective M&R programs and lifecycle management.
  • Lead execution of capital projects, modernization efforts, and technology adoption.
  • Partner with finance to optimize cost structure, improve cost-per-move, and deliver financial performance.
  • Support commercial objectives through strong customer service, operational reliability, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Represent the organization with key external stakeholders, including port authorities, labor groups, and industry partners.
  • Ensure operational resilience, business continuity, and effective response in a 24/7 operating environment.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of market dynamics, competitive landscape, and industry trends to inform operational strategy and business positioning.
  • Serve as Husky's representative on the Area Sub-steering Committee (ASC), contributing to industry-wide operational and strategic discussions.
  • Partner with commercial and corporate teams to retain the existing customer base and support new business development through operational excellence and service reliability.
  • Continuously assess terminal practices and procedures to identify opportunities that drive productivity, efficiency, and measurable operational performance improvements.

Education



  • Preferably bachelor's or master's degree in Operations Management, Maritime/Transportation, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.


Related Experience

  • Fifteen (15) or more years of progressive operational leadership experience in marine terminal, port, or logistics operations.
  • Ten (10) or more years of experience with terminal operation technologies and related information technology systems and support functions.
  • Five (5) or more years of senior leadership experience as a COO, VP of Operations, or equivalent leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large, complex labor workforces, preferably including ILWU or comparable unionized environments.
  • Direct experience with vessel operations, stevedoring, yard management, gate, and intermodal functions required.
  • Background in capital project execution, terminal expansion, or infrastructure modernization.

  • Exceptional operational leadership and strategic planning capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large, diverse teams in a fast-paced, high-demand environment
  • Advanced communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills.
  • Collaborative executive presence with ability to influence across the organization.
  • Deep knowledge of terminal operations, safety regulations (OSHA, MARSEC, Coast Guard), and port environment.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, make timely decisions, and execute with urgency.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing operating budgets and cost performance.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to safety culture and regulatory compliance.


Required Credentials:



  • Ability to obtain a valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
  • Valid Driver's license

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet environment and work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is typical business office level.
