Summary Description of Position This position is responsible for providing QC field support and guidance to sales, operations and other company personnel. Interacts with contractors and communicates back to the plant and lab support team. Provides recommendations to address quality concerns. Provides quality reports with little or no direction. Individual may represent Company at various industry and pre-job meetings. Serves as a technical resource for the department, field operations personnel, sales personnel and outside contractors and agencies. What You'll Do: * Generates mix designs for aggregates (AGG), asphalt (HMA) and/or ready mix concrete (RMC). Conducts analysis of customer and job specifications. * Oversees special, high visibility, or large projects such as the use of new cement, etc. troubleshoots problems jobs and specifications; * Trains QC department personnel in proper testing procedures within the lab and in the field to optimize team efforts and efficient performance. * Reviews, monitors, and maintains the test results of the data and adjusts blends when required. * Inspects, samples, and conducts routine and special laboratory testing on construction materials (AGG, HMA, RMC) in conformance with appropriate standard test methods. * Prepares submittals for the various products. * Tests and reviews material qualities for conformance following ASTM and appropriate DOT procedures in order to meet Vulcan's performance standards for quality products. Performs tests to insure quality of products during production, shipping, and at jobsites. Communicates test results to supervisors, plant personnel and plant site QC. Insures proper documentation of results in the QC database. * Prepares statistical summary quality reports on VMC product lines. * Perform troubleshooting of field and jobsite problems. Person will visually inspect material sources, stockpiles, and truck loads at Aggregate plants, RMC batch plants, and HMA plant sites. * Conducts testing and assists in plant calibrations to ensure product quality. * Verifies outside construction materials testing laboratory results and maintains accurate, timely records of test data, product quality, and defective materials. * Assists and trains QC technicians. * Keeps abreast of professional and technical developments in order to maintain and improve the skills and knowledge needed for superior job performance and to help improve operational efficiency. * Answer customer questions about product selection, application, and troubleshooting. * Work with other technical support staff to provide a high level of customer service. Qualifications
Skills You'll Need: Education. High School diploma or its equivalent is required. Bachelor's degree in engineering, geology, or a related field is preferred. Experience. Five (5) years of construction materials testing experience in construction materials to include aggregates, asphalt, and ready mix concrete is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Individual must possess superior working knowledge of at least one product line and skilled in all product lines. * Individual must be skilled in basic ASTM, AASHTO, and state DOT testing procedures applicable to our complete product line. * Person must be knowledgeable in product related specifications and finished products. Good math and computer skills. * Ability to perform material testing in an orderly, efficient, and accurate manner. * Strong verbal communications skills for interacting with plant production personnel, plant managers, sales personnel, customers, and agency representatives. * Ability to problem solve, make decisions within level of authority, and work independently. * Skills in general statistical analysis, math and engineering concepts are preferred. * Ability to travel as needed. * Must have the ability to use computerized equipment and technology. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google, Oracle Business Environment and other software packages relevant to the position. Finds practical solutions, implements fixes, and adapts to unexpected challenges. * Product Knowledge: Understands and can explain succinctly VMC products and/or services including their composition, features, benefits, and limitations. * Work Ethic- Committed to high-quality work, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and personal responsibility in fulfilling job duties. Other Requirements * A valid driver's license is required. * This position requires knowledge and awareness of construction site hazards and requires the use of appropriate protective gear when working near construction sites. * In addition to the typical protective gear, gear to protect against exposure to noise, dust, chemical solvents, and fumes may be needed. * This position may include the use of nuclear testing equipment and other hazardous materials that require special training and vigilance to safeguard against possible hazards. * Lifting and transporting sample buckets and bags of up to 50 pounds will be required. What You'll Like About Us: Salary Range. The base salary range for this role is between $100,000 - $135,000 annual salary, depending on experience. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package.
