Overview
The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies (formerly Rutgers Center for Tobacco Studies) is undergoing dynamic and transformative growth. The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies is one of the nation's leading tobacco focused research centers and its faculty have received over $50 million in extramural funding over the past two decades. The Institute's efforts are focused on their mission of reducing and ultimately eliminating, tobacco-related morbidity and mortality.

Five Centers or Programs currently operate at the Institute including a Tobacco Center for Regulatory Science, the Center of Excellence for Rapid Surveillance of Tobacco, the Tobacco Dependence Program, a Tobacco Industry Marketing Program, and a Tobacco Control Law & Policy Resource Center.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey has opening for Research Scientist II at the Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies located in New Brunswick, NJ. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator of the Center for Rapid Surveillance of Tobacco ( CRST), this position will assist in the design and conduct of specialized tobacco research, using judgement to adapt methods and techniques. The Research Scientist II is responsible for research studies, including design, analysis, and reporting. The position may oversee the work of student research assistants.

Duties include:

  • Serves as Project Lead or senior research staff on tobacco and nicotine-related research studies, supporting the CRST PI with the design, development, and implementation of research protocols, followed by appropriate reports, recommendations and conclusions.
  • Independently conducts advanced quantitative and qualitative data analyses using large, complex datasets related to tobacco use, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and appropriate interpretation of findings.
  • Coordinates and oversees data management activities, including development and implementation of data quality assurance and control procedures to ensure integrity and reliability of study data, including large-scale commercial sales and market surveillance datasets.
  • Designs, coordinates, and executes specialized research activities for ad hoc CRST research project.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Master's Degree in related science
  • Plus, three (3) years of demonstrated experience in tobacco control research.
  • Doctorate degree in a related science field may be substituted for two (2) years of experience
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A publication track record in tobacco control is strongly preferred.
