Primary Responsibilities
HDR's Distribution Project Engineer will: serve as a project manager for various power distribution projects, conducting concept, design development, and contract document work sessions at project sites in conjunction with Project Managers, appropriate technical professionals, and other disciplines; prepare or review scopes, budgets, and schedules; prepare technical aspects and deliverables associated with the conceptual and detailed design of overhead and underground electric power distribution systems, distribution system planning, lighting design, grounding and lightning protection; coordinate the preparation of construction packages for overhead and underground distribution lines including plan and profile drawings, structure assemblies and details, stringing charts, staking tables, bills of material, and other applicable details; serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in power distribution and transmission design, performing assignments and resolving issues of greater scope and complexity; coordinate the work of the power design team through the schematic design development and contract document phase of a project; establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance; coordinate workload to complete deliverables on schedule; perform site visits during the design, construction, and as-built phases of projects, including participating in field reviews or construction observation; review work performed by and mentor junior engineers and technical staff; review project documents for areas of conflict with other disciplines; write and edit project specifications; coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, requests for information (RFIs), change orders (COs) and take responsibility to incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents; provide construction contract administration, as needed; and implement and perform project quality control plans and conduct QA/QC on the work of other Engineers, Project Coordinators or Designers, or BIM Technicians.

Required Qualifications
  • A Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field and 3 years of experience in engineering for the Power Market Sector or a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field and 5 years of experience in engineering for the Power Market Sector.
  • Experience must include experience in: overhead and underground distribution design, planning, and modeling; preparing plan and profile drawings, specifications, and construction drawings for overhead and underground line projects; development of estimated manhours, cost estimates, and schedules; performing distribution system analysis and design, creating fusing requests, and estimating loads and analyzing cable ampacity following the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC); electrical and planning analysis software CYMCAP, ETAP, or Polywater Pull Planner; CAD software for electrical distribution PLS-CADD, MicroStation, AutoCAD, or ArcGIS; and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Access.
  • Must hold Engineer-in-Training certification or must have passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination. Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is not a prerequisite for this position.
  • Occasional travel within the United States up to four times per year for 2 to 3 days per trip.

The expected compensation range for this position is $163,197 to $164,450 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
