What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Process Technician to play a critical role in the development, operation, and maintenance of an advanced electrode and cell development line. Battery cells are the foundation of every Tesla product, requiring innovative cell architectures with cutting-edge performance and manufacturing at unprecedented volumes. This fast-paced and dynamic environment demands passion and self-motivation to push boundaries. The role involves collaboration with engineering groups across multiple disciplines, necessitating strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset. You will work alongside industry experts, recent high-aptitude graduates, and professionals at all career stages, focusing on problem-solving in both individual and collaborative settings.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the operation of electrode and cell assembly equipment to produce and test state-of-the-art prototype battery cells
  • Document critical build process parameters and quality control metrics, performing analysis as needed
  • Conduct regular equipment inspections before and after operation, collaborating with the equipment team to optimize overall equipment efficiency
  • Perform quality control on electrodes and cells, including building and testing half-cell coin cells and conducting electrochemical diagnostic techniques
  • Provide feedback on existing standard operating procedures and assist process and equipment engineering teams in developing new procedures
  • Diagnose cell build issues and equipment failures, identifying root causes and communicating required actions between equipment and process engineering teams
  • Perform minor equipment repairs, rebuilds, and installations, coordinating with the equipment team for major repairs

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Passion for creating innovative products and using data to achieve exceptional quality, reliability, and production excellence
  • Ability to analyze processing challenges and equipment fault conditions, identify root causes, and implement reliable long-term solutions
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to clearly communicate results and challenges to the engineering team
  • Experience with slurry mixing, roll-to-roll coating, pressing, slitting with micron-scale precision, and cell assembly is a plus
  • Experience building and testing Li-ion coin and pouch cells with Arbin, Neware, Biologic, or Gamry is a plus
  • Experience with design of experiments is a plus

    Expected Compensation
    $24.40 - $65.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
