What to Expect
The Cell Quality Team at Gigafactory Nevada is seeking a dedicated Cell Quality Technician to support root cause analysis investigations, routine testing, data collection, and detailed cell-level analyses in a dynamic lab environment. This role involves a diverse set of responsibilities, including data entry, fixture development, and presenting cell failure analysis reports. The ideal candidate will be internally motivated, academically inclined, and exhibit integrity, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude to independently identify issues and drive process improvements. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, quality, and R&D, will be essential to improve field reliability, safety, processes, and cost savings.

What You'll Do
  • Support routine cell quality failure analysis activities at Gigafactory Nevada, including cell preparation, handling, disassembly, and imaging for root cause investigations
  • Facilitate the transfer of battery cells across testing workflows to gather data for field failure analysis reports
  • Conduct detailed imaging and data collection using lab equipment to identify, document, and report defects in battery cells returned from the field
  • Contribute to and lead small- to medium-scale projects to enhance team efficiency in cell processing, testing, and high-volume analysis
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, qualification, manufacturing, quality, and R&D, on various cell engineering initiatives
  • Lead continuous improvement and training efforts within the team and with external suppliers and partners
  • Independently collect, analyze, and interpret data to provide actionable feedback to suppliers, design, manufacturing, quality, and research teams

What You'll Bring
  • 2+ years of experience in failure analysis or a commercial lab environment
  • Moderate understanding of physical, electrochemical, and thermodynamic theory related to Li-ion technology and cell failure analysis, with a willingness to deepen knowledge
  • Exceptional attention to detail, along with strong documentation, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to quickly adapt to and utilize technological tools and proprietary applications for accurate data recording and management
  • Experience thriving in an ambiguous, dynamic, and fast-paced work environment
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Capability to lift and sort parts weighing up to 40 lbs. as needed
