The primary responsibility of the Michigan Stormwater Business Class Lead will be to provide technical, delivery, and strategic leadership for HDR's Stormwater Program, with a focus on municipal stormwater programs, flood risk reduction, watershed planning, and resilient infrastructure. The role balances hands on project leadership with practice growth, staff development, business development and client engagement across our Michigan offices.
Technical & Program Leadership Lead the planning, design, and delivery of stormwater and flood mitigation projects, including:
- Stormwater management facilities and conveyance systems
- Urban and watershed-scale hydrology and hydraulics
- Flood risk reduction and FEMA-regulated systems
- Green stormwater infrastructure (GSI), LID, and BMPs
- Serve as Project Manager or Technical Lead on complex, high-profile municipal projects.
- Provide oversight and QA/QC for modeling efforts (e.g., InfoWorks ICM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS)
- Support development of technically sound, resilient, and constructible solutions.
Business Class & Practice Leadership * Support the vision and strategic growth of HDR's stormwater practice. * Act as a technical liaison and mentor across offices and disciplines. * Organize and disseminate stormwater best practices, tools, and standards. * Contribute to regional and national stormwater initiatives and communities of practice. Client Engagement & Business Development * Maintain trusted advisor relationships with municipal and utility clients. * Participate in pursuit strategies, proposal development, and interviews. * Identify opportunities to expand services within existing stormwater and flood management programs. * Collaborate with market sector and business group leadership on growth strategies. Staff Development & Team Support * Mentor engineers and task leads, supporting career development and technical excellence. * Assist with recruiting and onboarding as practice needs grow. * Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
- 10 years of experience
- Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
- Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
- Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
- Works cooperatively with other area business class leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
