What to Expect
Tesla is seeking an ambitious Environmental Engineer to join the Environmental, Health and Safety Team (EHS). The Environmental Engineer will report directly to the EHSMegafactoryManager and willbe responsible forenvironmental compliance programs forMegafactoryOperations (MFTX). They will support day-to-day operations and associated environmental aspects/impacts to reduce environmental risk, assure environmental compliance, andseekand capitalize on opportunities to reduce the environmental footprint of TexasMegafactoryoperations.
The Environmental Engineer will develop, implement, and continuously improve programs within the EHS Management System framework in partnership with the broader EHS and Infrastructure teams. They willmonitorand analyze developing trends and changes in regulatory requirements - including waste, wastewater, and stormwater regulations - and assure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, while conforming to internal and industry standards.
What You'll Do
- Supportthe hazardous and industrial waste compliance assurance program for TX manufacturing sites in coordination with the Texas Hazardous and Industrial Waste Operations Manager
- ImplementTesla's Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) compliance assurance program at Texas manufacturing sites as applicable
- Assistwith implementing Pollution Prevention (P2) practices and preparing/maintaining P2 plans and corresponding regulatory reports
- Completewaste determinations,classificationsand profilesin accordance withlocal,stateand federal regulations
- Identifyand implement waste reduction strategies in collaboration with stakeholders andTexasHazardous and Industrial Waste Operations team
- Managewastewater compliance programs, including industrial wastewater discharge permits, effluent monitoring, sampling, reporting, and compliance with TCEQ and EPA requirements under the Clean Water Act (CWA)
- Leadstormwater compliance activities, including development, implementation and maintenance of the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), quarterly visual inspections, sampling, and compliance with the Texas Multi-Sector General Permit (MSGP)
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or Environmental, or equivalent experience preferred
- Minimum3+ years of experience managing multi-media environmental compliance programs in Texas
- Previousexperience preparing Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), hazardous and industrial waste compliance, wastewater permitting, and stormwater (MSGP/SWPPP) compliance and reporting in Texas
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi-faceted projects in a fast-paced environment, where demands and priorities change rapidly
- Ability to communicate effectively with production employees, engineers, legal counsel, technical specialists, and management, cross-functionally, in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Foundational knowledge of EHS laws (EPCRA, RCRA, IFC, DOT, CAA, CWA, OSHA, etc.), regulations, and standards
- Advanced knowledgeinenvironmental data analytics and environmental pollution release calculations
