Position Summary The Quality Technician Intern supports quality assurance and continuous improvement activities within HVAC Filtration, assuring filters and components meet internal specifications, customer requirements, and applicable standards. This role assists with incoming, in-process, and final inspection/testing; dimensional and visual checks; and performance-related verification (e.g., fit, seal integrity, labeling, and packaging requirements) using calibrated measurement equipment, systems, and standard work instructions. The intern also helps maintain accurate quality records, supports nonconformance identification, containment, and participates/supports in root-cause investigations and corrective/preventive actions in partnership with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain. Through controlled documentation, traceability, data collection and trending, and Lean/continuous improvement practices, the intern contributes to improving first-pass yield, reducing scrap/rework, customer complaints, and sustaining a strong culture of product quality Responsibilities
- Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of HVAC filtration products and components (media packs, frames, gaskets/sealants, adhesives, labels, packaging) to verify conformance to drawings, control plans, and work instructions.
- Conduct visual and dimensional checks using calibrated tools (calipers, micrometers, go/no-go gauges) and document results per inspection/test plans.
- Prepare test samples to support quality, process validation, and product/process development activities.
- Test manufactured product samples to verify compliance with specifications and documented requirements (e.g., air permeability/flow-related tests as applicable, strength/adhesion checks, material verification).
- Set up, adjust, and operate laboratory tools/equipment used for testing and process control (e.g., air permeability testers, loft gauges, tensile testers, scales, viscometer, microscopes); clean and maintain equipment per established procedures/requirements.
- Prepare PPAPs in support of new supplier qualifications and part/product introduction efforts.
- Record inspection and test results using standardized formats, maintain accurate quality records, and prepare clear test reports describing the methods, conditions, and observations.
- Identify, document, and assist with nonconformances (segregation/containment, hold/tagging, quarantine) and communicate issues internal and external.
- Collect and analyze quality data to improve data quality and consistency across applicable systems; generate basic charts/metrics supporting scrap, rework, defects, and first-pass yield monitoring.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Quality, Industrial/Manufacturing/Mechanical/Chemical Engineering, Business, Management, Supply Chain, or a closely related discipline.
- Ability to collaborate across Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supply Chain; comfortable facilitating meetings, capturing action items, and driving timely follow-up.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with demonstrated attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy, traceability, and integrity.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, charts, filters, conditional formatting; basic formulas such as XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP); working knowledge of other Microsoft 365 tools (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) preferred.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create clear documentation, summarize findings, and present results to technical and non-technical team members.
- Organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and track deliverables in a deadline-driven manufacturing environment; basic project management experience is a plus.
- General understanding of manufacturing processes and quality management principles (e.g., inspections, nonconformance handling, document control, corrective actions); familiarity with Lean/continuous improvement concepts is a plus.
- Ability to follow standard work, controlled procedures, and safety requirements, including appropriate handling of chemicals and lab/test equipment when applicable.
- Demonstrated professionalism, including the ability to maintain confidentiality and protect business-sensitive and customer-related information.
