Position Highlights The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (CMM) at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to conduct research as well as co-teach gross anatomy at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson.

The successful applicant will collaborate on research projects with current faculty and may also pursue their own independent research or scholarly interests. Available research resources at the University of Arizona include microCT, PET, and MR 3D imaging, histology processing facilities, a Nikon Center of Excellence in Microscopy, and a comprehensive suite of core facilities. Current faculty research areas in the department include: clinical anatomy, evolutionary morphology, and cellular and molecular biomedical sciences (primarily but not limited to the foundational understanding of cancer, cardiovascular, and airway disease).

Successful candidates must have a strong desire to build a career in clinically-oriented anatomical sciences, and will receive training in gross anatomy (as needed) and mentorship in pedagogy and curriculum design. Applicants without human body donor cadaveric dissection experience will be required to observe and participate in a summer, 5-week intensive anatomy course (June 8 - July 9).

Duties & Responsibilities

Research:

  • Conduct independent or CMM-faculty mentored research or scholarship.
  • Submit research for publication in peer-reviewed journals and/or
    contribute to the scholarship of teaching and learning at the University
    of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson.
  • Present findings at departmental seminars and professional meetings.

Teaching:

  • Teach anatomy to medical students in the
    Fall Semester, including laboratory instruction, select lectures, and
    completing competency evaluations.
  • Teach undergraduate,
    graduate, and Pre-Medical Admissions Pathway students in a 5-week
    intensive Summer Session (CMM 401/501): Human Gross Anatomy course,
    including laboratory instruction and workshops.
  • Teach anatomy to high school students in community outreach programs.
  • Perform prosections as needed for the medical curriculum.

Mentorship:

  • Assist in the supervision of 4th year medical
    students in a preceptorship course, CMM 896: Gross Anatomy Laboratory
    Assistance.
  • Assist in the supervision of 4th year medical
    students in advanced special dissection projects in CMM 899G: Selected
    Topics in Human Gross Anatomy.
  • Help revise exam questions and set up / proctor practical laboratory examinations.
  • Participate in continuing medical education courses in the anatomy laboratory.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to
    independently develop reports and manuscripts and present findings in
    tabular, oral, written, and/or graphic formats.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in biomedical sciences, anatomical sciences,
    biological anthropology, vertebrate paleontology, organismal biology, or
    related field.
  • Prior advanced coursework in anatomy and physiology.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior human anatomy teaching experience in a dissection-based course.
  • A strong desire to build a career in clinically-oriented anatomical sciences.
  • Research interests aligned with those of the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine.
