The Director, Consumer Science & Claims Excellence, is responsible for leading consumer and product research activities and providing scientific oversight for claims substantiation across IC North America. The role ensures that consumer evidence, product experience insights, and claims-related decisions are grounded in scientific rigor, aligned with regulatory requirements, and consistently applied across brands. This position partners closely with Marketing, Consumer Insights, and within R&D with Product Development, Medical, Regulatory, and Packaging teams to support innovation, renovation, and commercialization activities. This hybrid position requires four days per week onsite at the U.S. Innovation Center in Florham Park, NJ, with periodic travel to Stamford, CT, and up to 30% domestic and international travel, including occasional evenings and weekends for critical meetings and conferences.
Your Tasks
- Consumer Research & Evidence Generation
- Lead consumer and product interaction activities across key stages of the innovation process
- Lead the design, execution, and interpretation of consumer and product-use studies that inform product development and renovation.
- Ensure consumer learning is systematically captured, synthesized, and applied to development programs across the portfolio.
- Establish and maintain standardized methodologies for consumer research, product testing, and experience evaluation
- Science Translation and Product Experience
- Translate scientific and technical findings into clear consumer-relevant insights and communication materials to support cross-functional decision making.
- Provide scientific input to claims development, substantiation, and interpretation
- Develop and maintain sensory, performance, and experience evaluation frameworks
- Partner with global teams on scientific communication tools, demos, and visual materials as appropriate
- Support U.S. claims governance processes in collaboration with Regulatory and Legal
- Claims Substantiation & Governance
- Provide scientific input and guidance for claims development, substantiation, and interpretation in collaboration with Regulatory and Legal.
- Maintain claims frameworks, standards, templates, and documentation to ensure consistency and readiness for internal/external review.
- Monitor external claims landscapes, including regulatory guidance, industry practices, and emerging claim trends, to inform internal testing and substantiation approaches.
- Support the U.S. claims governance process and related documentation practices.
- Cross-Functional Partnership & Communication
- Act as a key scientific partner across Consumer Insights, Marketing, Medical, Regulatory, Packaging, and R&D to ensure coherence between consumer evidence, product performance, and claims.
- Prepare concise scientific summaries, visuals, and demonstration materials for internal stakeholders and leadership reviews.
- Represent the region in relevant global scientific and R&D forums, sharing methods and learnings.
- Shape the Innovation Pipeline & IP Activities
- Co-lead innovation pipeline creation with R&D and Marketing
- Collaborate with formulation, packaging, and prototyping teams to support early- stage learning and validation
- Partner with IP and Legal teams to support protection of scientific data, methods, and claims-relevant know-how
- Team Leadership & Capability Building
- Build, lead, and develop a multidisciplinary team spanning consumer research and claims support.
- Establish clear roles, competencies, and development pathways; foster a culture of scientific rigor, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Drive consistency and operational excellence through SOPs, tools, and training.

Your Profile
- 15+ years in R&D, with experience in Consumer Science, R&D, Product Experience, Sensory, Claims, Consumer Insights, or similar roles in CPG/Beauty/Healthcare.
- Strong track record of translating insights and science into winning products, claims, and consumer-relevant narratives.
- Experience in skin science, dermatology-adjacent categories, OTC, or medical marketing.
- Deep understanding of claims substantiation, regulatory frameworks, and scientific evidence generation.
- Experience leading cross-functional innovation programs from concept to validation to launch.
- Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
- Strong people leadership and talent development experience
