Position Summary

The 2nd Vice President, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) is a senior finance leader responsible for shaping and driving the organization's financial planning, forecasting, and performance management capabilities. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role plays a critical part in aligning financial outcomes with enterprise strategy, optimizing capital deployment, and delivering actionable insights to executive leadership and the Board.

This leader partners closely with Solution Groups, Corporate Accounting and Financial Reporting, Treasury, and Risk and Actuarial teams to establish financial objectives, evaluate performance against return expectations, and ensure disciplined capital management across the enterprise and its subsidiaries. While not directly responsible for enterprise risk management or actuarial functions, this role integrates their insights into comprehensive financial and capital strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Financial Planning & Forecasting

  • Lead the enterprise-wide annual planning and goal-setting process.
  • Develop and manage rolling forecasts and long-range financial plans.
  • Establish and monitor key financial metrics, including revenue, earnings, capital ratios, and return measures.
  • Deliver consolidated financial outlooks and insights to senior leadership.
  • Conduct scenario analyses to evaluate the impact of business performance, capital allocation, and market conditions.
  • Oversee enterprise expense strategy, including procurement and expense management, to drive efficiency and cost discipline.

Financial Performance Management

  • Design and implement frameworks to measure financial performance across business lines and product segments.
  • Partner with business leaders to track results against plans and return objectives.
  • Lead regular financial performance reviews and executive reporting.
  • Identify performance gaps and recommend actionable solutions.
  • Enhance KPI dashboards and reporting tools to support data-driven decision-making.

Capital Management

  • Support the development, optimization, and execution of the enterprise capital plan.
  • Monitor and manage economic and statutory capital levels, including RBC ratios and holding company liquidity.
  • Partner with Treasury on capital structure strategy and debt management.
  • Oversee capital governance, including dividend planning from insurance subsidiaries to the parent company.
  • Coordinate capital planning across legal entities to ensure efficient deployment.

Regulatory Capital & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory capital requirements and dividend restrictions.
  • Oversee capital-related components of regulatory filings in partnership with Accounting and Legal.
  • Monitor evolving regulatory standards and assess implications for the organization.
  • Maintain strong governance and documentation over capital planning processes.

Board & Executive Reporting

  • Prepare and deliver materials for executive leadership and Board discussions on financial performance and capital position.
  • Provide clear, concise analysis of capital adequacy, dividend capacity, and financial trends.
  • Support strategic initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, with robust financial and capital impact analysis.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing FP&A and capital management team.
  • Drive continuous improvement in planning, forecasting, and reporting processes.
  • Foster a culture of analytical rigor, accountability, and collaboration across finance and business partners.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (MBA, CPA, or CFA strongly preferred).
  • 8-12+ years of progressive finance experience within life insurance or financial services.
  • Deep expertise in:
    • Financial planning, forecasting, and analysis
    • Statutory accounting and insurance capital frameworks (including RBC)
    • Dividend regulations and intercompany capital flows
    • Financial performance management and reporting
  • Proven experience preparing executive-level and Board-ready materials.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability with strong cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred

  • Experience within a mutual insurance company environment.
  • Strong partnership experience with Accounting, Treasury, and Actuarial functions.

Our policy allows flexibility for the reality of business and personal schedules.

The estimated base pay range for this job is $230,000- $280,000. Pay may vary depending on job-related factors and individual experience, skills, knowledge, etc. This job is also eligible for both an annual incentive program and a long-term incentive program.
