Hourly Pay Range:

$35.16 - $54.50 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights:

  • Stationary Engineer

  • Location: Northwest Community Hospital - Arlington Heights, IL

  • Full Time, 40 hours/week

  • Hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 11:00pm - 7:30am

What you will do:

  • Operates, adjusts, and maintains power plant and various auxiliary equipment such as boilers, chillers, electric generators, pumps, air handlers, pneumatic tube transport, and related devices and systems in accordance with time schedules and load demands. Observes gauges and meters to determine operating condition of equipment. Records operating and maintenance data such as hours of operation, pressure, temperature, energy production, and fuel consumption.

  • Operates the Building Automation System, Fire Alarm System, Cogeneration System, and other computer controlled automated systems which control building functions. Visually inspects equipment during plant rounds including: boilers for proper flame, water level, pressure, and possible tube leaks; tank supply and oil service pumps for proper pressure and temperatures; fuel piping to and from boilers and generators including valves, traps, and regulators; air handler discharge temperature and static pressure. Performs chemical tests on closed loop systems (boiler, chiller, and condenser water) and records data.

  • Responds to all calls related to building temperature, humidity, or service e.g. heating and cooling, medical gas alarms, air pressure, steam pressure, etc. Researches situation, troubleshoots problem, and responds appropriately to resolve any problems. Performs standing rounds of mechanical equipment areas. Observes gauges and meters to determine operating condition of equipment.

  • Repairs, adjusts, and maintains the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, support equipment, and other utility equipment. Disassembles equipment/machinery to remove damaged or worn parts. Inspects parts to determine the need for repair or replacement. Reassembles equipment/machinery following equipment/specs to ensure proper functioning. Performs functional checkout of equipment/system to ensure its proper operation following the repair.

  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment/machinery to prevent downtime; including HVAC equipment, support equipment, and other utility equipment. Utilizes tools to verify proper operation. Inspects for wear, sounds, etc. that could indicate need for repair. Replaces worn out or consumed parts, degreases lubricates, checks alignment, tension, and efficiency. Vacuums, sweeps, and cleans equipment to ensure proper ventilation to equipment and provide early indications of wear or leaks.

  • Responds to emergency situations such as fire, floods, or loss of utility. Performs immediate corrective action to alleviate the problem. Communicates with emergency personnel e.g. fire department, police department, public works department, and nursing administrator in response to emergency. Documents corrective action in engineering shift log.

  • Maintains engineering equipment areas, including cleaning, light bulb changes, painting, minor equipment adjustments, filter changes, and various other tasks. Assists maintenance and environmental personal on night shifts and weekends as necessary.

  • Assists with campus snow removal.

  • Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies, and procedures.

What you will need:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED

  • Certification: Stationary Engineer'sLicense(Chicago or Elgin) within 6 months of start date into position.

    A valid driver's license is required if the incumbent is selected to perform related duties at an offsite location.

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 yrs. experience performing the duties of a Stationary Engineer.

  • Unique or Preferred Skills: Additional knowledge in two of the following areas: HVAC systems, water chemistry, pumps, refrigeration, electricity, and boiler combustion.
