Job Summary

The Mechanical Engineer III role designs and analyzes mechanical systems and products to create solutions for Nidec Traction customers. The Engineer supports commercial vehicle electric mobility as well as various motor and drive solutions for off-highway applications. Contribute to the achievement of operational, functional, and business objectives by applying technical principles within the assigned team. This position operates as an intermediate-level technical contributor, working independently with moderate supervision and occasionally seeking guidance from more senior team members. The role supports product development and improvements, VAVE, production, and failure analysis.

Job Description

  • Create 3D models and/or modify detailed engineering drawings and documentation from preliminary concept, engineering calculations, customer requirements and international /industrial/agency standards.

  • Develop, build, and test prototypes of products to ensure they meet required specifications and standards.

  • Identify and execute VAVE projects to reduce product cost, analyze cost breakdowns, and improve value through design changes.

  • Manage VAVE projects from conception to completion, including budgeting, team management, and customer communication.

  • Coordinate with purchasing, manufacturing, quality, and suppliers to implement changes through Engineering Change process.

  • Conducts research and analyzing data to develop new mechanical designs.

  • Communicate with internal and external customers or partners to develop and support new designs and existing products.

  • Responsible for making minor improvements to technical/business processes, procedures, or systems to contribute to the performance of the team

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering.

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering or related field.

  • Proficiency in 3D modeling software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.) and other relevant engineering software.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings including GD&T.

  • Experience with FEA, DFMEA, DFM, 8D, and Failure analysis.

  • Experience with shafts, gearing, bearings, or castings.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as casting, machining, and injection molding.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Requires understanding of basic context and practical knowledge of technical and business environment as well as potential and upcoming technical advances within area of specialization, typically obtained through advanced education and relevant experience.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
