This role provides advanced analytical support focused on spectroscopy, microscopy, and kinetic studies, enabling molecular, structural, and performance understanding of materials, polymers and coatings systems. The position emphasizes problem-solving, with strong application of FTIR, Microscopy, Chromatography, and/or NMR techniques.

Job duties include contact with other employees and access to confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company's staff, employees, and business relationships.

This role is not remote/hybrid. This role will report to Sherwin-Williams Morikis Global Technology Center located at 6745 Miller Road, Brecksville, OH 44141.

Analytical Problem Solving (Core Focus)
* Lead and support root cause investigations for product, manufacturing, and field issues. Apply structured problem-solving approaches to identify failure mechanisms. Integrate data from multiple techniques to deliver actionable insights

Spectroscopy & Structural Characterization
* Perform and interpret analyses using spectroscopic techniques and correlate morphological features with chemical and structural data. Integrate findings into broader analytical conclusions
* Provide structure-property-performance insights

Kinetic Studies & Reaction Monitoring
* Design and execute kinetic experiments (e.g., curing, degradation, reaction rates) using spectroscopy (FTIR, Raman, UVVis, etc.) to monitor reactions over time and interpret kinetic data to support formulation and performance optimization

Method Development & Continuous Improvement
* Develop and refine analytical methods across spectroscopy and related techniques

Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Partner with polymer, coatings, and materials science teams and contribute to project teams and technical discussions.

Data Interpretation & Communication
* Analyze complex multi-technique datasets
* Prepare clear reports and present findings to stakeholders
* Translate technical results into practical recommendations

Laboratory Operations
* Maintain and troubleshoot analytical instruments
* Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards
* Support calibration, documentation, and best practices

Basic Qualifications
* Must be at least 18 years of age
* Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status)
* Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics ("STEM") field
* 3 years of experience in analytical laboratories
* Hands-on experience with spectroscopy and/or Microscopy
* Understanding of spectroscopy, microscopy, and kinetic principles
* Working knowledge of NMR and/or XRD instrumentation

Preferred Qualifications
* MS or PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Science or Materials Science with a focus on spectroscopy (IR, Raman, NMR, etc.), Microscopy and/or Kinetics
* Experience with various spectroscopic techniques
* Background in kinetic studies and reaction monitoring
* Experience in polymers, coatings, or materials systems
