What to Expect

Tesla has a regional opportunity for a Sr. Design Manager to join our dynamic Infrastructure Development team. The Design Manager will manage the design and permitting phases of new Sales, Service, Delivery, and Collision Facilities as well as autonomous taxi infrastructure facilities. We're seeking self-motivated professionals proficient in Revit to drive projects. The role will be regionally based in Austin.


What You'll Do
  • Oversee and own the execution of the design development process - from test fit, concept design, management of survey and due diligence, issue for bid (IFB) and issue for construction (IFC) packages with external consultants
  • Coordinate all technical and business needs required from stakeholders and transform them into a concept drawing based on site-specific conditions
  • Managing site survey and due diligence process and findings including but not limited to existing conditions assessments of utilities, utility load analysis, structural conditions, vehicle access studies, and general property conditions assessments
  • Leading site walks and conversations with key stakeholders to align on final scope requirements, identify cost impact drivers, creatively provide design solutions to retrofit buildings to Tesla brand standard
  • Manage survey, drawing, and permitting schedule with internal and external business partners to ensure deliverables align with internal milestones
  • Produce design concept documents, presentations drawings and design details. Review construction documents, shop drawings and answer RFI's to ensure execution of the design intent
  • Lead permitting phase including but not limited to pre-application meetings with AHJ's (Authorities Having Jurisdiction), Entitlements, Site Plan Approvals, Rezoning, and Conditional Use Permits

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or equivalent experience
  • 5-7 years of experience in retail, commercial, and/or industrial infrastructure required
  • Design Management or Architectural firm experience preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and 3D Sketchup
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally, in writing and through drawings/sketches
  • Mechanical, electrical and plumbing knowledge to coordinate utilities with outside consultants
  • The ability to drive results in a fast-paced environment
