What you'll do

Viasat is seeking a Systems Engineer for Verification and Validation efforts in support of our work as a prime contractor on a DoD SATCOM program. The ideal candidate will be someone who can collaboratively develop system verification strategies spanning the end-to-end SATCOM architecture, including the space segment, ground segment, and network interfaces.

We are looking for a highly engaging, team-oriented and self-starting individual who can communicate and collaborate across multi-disciplinary engineering boundaries in a dynamic program environment.


The day-to-day

  • Develop a comprehensive V&V strategy for end-to-end SATCOM systems, including space, ground, and network segments
  • Engage with Integrated Product Teams (IPT) and stakeholders to ensure alignment
  • Manage system requirements to ensure clarity, traceability, and verifiability
  • Decompose system requirements to ensure bi-directional traceability to verification events and artifacts
  • Develop and maintain Requirement Verification Compliance Matrices (RVCMs) and Requirement Verification Traceability Matrices (RVTMs) and related work products
  • Develop and deliver technical documentation and customer presentations supporting verification activities
  • Present V&V strategy, status, and results at technical and program reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.)

What you'll need

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Systems, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a related field or equivalent years of related work experience.
  • 5+ years' experience supporting systems engineering efforts on commercial, Civil, or DoD programs
  • 2+ years supporting space programs
  • Demonstrated experience with requirements management, decomposition, and verification planning
  • Experience with satellite and ground station development, integration, and test lifecycles
  • Experience working on systems engineering projects involving multiple systems engineering teams
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, including customer-facing experience
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project execution skills
  • Proficiency with requirements management tools (DOORS, Jama, etc.)
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a security clearance
  • Able to travel approx. 10% of the time

What will help you on the job

  • Experience leading or owning system-level V&V across multiple segments (space, ground, network)
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams in complex systems engineering across the product development lifecycle
  • Experience with technical presentations and customer-facing activities
  • Experience with MBSE tools and methodologies (SysML, Cameo, etc.)
  • Experience with system analysis and modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, STK)

Salary range

$120,500.00 - $190,000.00 / annually.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $149,500.00- $224,500.00/ annually
