This is a limited appointment designed to support ongoing laboratory research activities in the Sello Lab. The selected candidate will contribute to the chemical synthesis of small molecules with potential therapeutic applications.

Responsibilities include utilizing laboratory instrumentation for the purification and characterization of synthesized compounds, as well as assisting with general research activities. The individual will be expected to adhere strictly to all UCSF policies and procedures related to laboratory safety, chemical hygiene, and the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Yes Under supervision, utilizing laboratory instrumentation for the purification and characterization of synthesized compounds.

Yes Assist other students, postdocs, and residents in the lab and work on assigned projects and other general research activities.

Yes Learn the routine lab maintenance and organizational duties, including database entry, ordering supplies and chemicals, general operation and maintenance of the laboratory, keeping records, and making stock solutions. Other duties include processing shipping, receiving and cataloging.

Required Qualifications

* BA/BS in biology or medical-related sciences or a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience;

* Laboratory research experience

* Practical knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques

* Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

* Ability to multi-task and prioritize

Preferred Qualifications

* Demonstrated ability to interact with diverse populations.

* Demonstrated knowledge of sound research methods and data collection and analysis.

* Ability to learn complex tasks with general instruction. Able to use experience to perform a variety of new techniques.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.


Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
