The Department of Pharmaceutical Services provides a full range of services for patients cared for by the
UCSF Medical Center and its providers and payors. These services include, but are not limited to: drug
procurement, storage, and security; safe, accurate and timely preparation and distribution of drugs; clinical
pharmacy services for patients; development of drug use policies within the Medical Center; drug information
services for clinicians and patients; and participation in technology assessment and quality assurance
programs. The Department of Pharmaceutical Services is affiliated with the UCSF Department of Clinical
Pharmacy, an academic department within the School of Pharmacy, which has primary responsibility for
teaching professional courses in the Pharm.D. curriculum, clinical research, and public and clinical service.

The Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Services share their philosophy of pharmaceutical
care. Under the direction of Pharmaceutical Services, the Pharmacy Technician 2/Pharmacy Technician 2 PD
provides pharmaceutical care to patients across pharmacy locations within the UCSF Health System and
delivers specialized services to campus-based research operations. While the position may be primarily
assigned to a designated site, incumbents are required to demonstrate flexibility to work at all UCSF Health
locations, as operational needs dictate. All Pharmacy Technicians are accountable to the supervising or
operating pharmacist who is legally responsible by virtue of state licensure for the care and safety of patients
served by Pharmaceutical Services. The Pharmacy Technician 2 performs all activities related to medication
preparation, medication distribution, and inventory management.
