Job Summary

Depending upon the desired qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position at a higher level within the job hierarchy.

This is the fourth level of the financial analysis classification hierarchy. Employees at this level work independently and receive minimal guidance. Incumbents are required to have in-depth knowledge and experience and work to solve complex problems. Incumbents also act as a resource for less experience employees.

Individuals in this role provides leadership (advising and providing direction), acts as a source of knowledge to others within finance, and will coordinate work activities or review the work of other teammates. The position requires interaction with individuals from various departments as well as technical knowledge and research capabilities to ensure compliance with GAAP and FERC. Desired qualifications include a demonstrated skillset for financial analysis; ability to reason logically, analyze and evaluate data/information and draw appropriate conclusions. This role also requires effective written and oral communication skills, analytical ability to problem solve, proficiency in learning financial systems or new technology, and an understanding of the impact of the capital project life cycle on ratemaking for retail and wholesale customers. The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing and supporting activities completed others in the capital project life cycle, the preparation of analytical reporting regarding project data (actuals and estimates) and various status reports such as for in-service and unitization. The selected employee will be expected to perform data analysis and research on ad-hoc requests, develop reporting, and effectively present results for management review and decision making. Responsibilities also include leading projects, process improvement initiatives with internal and external business partners, setting priorities and special projects, as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Provide accounting and financial reporting and analysis to management and customers.

  • Preparation and review of monthly journal entries, account reconciliations and analysis, and financial statement analysis.

  • Maintain good working knowledge of accounting policies and impacts as required. Coordinate and assist in implementation of new accounting pronouncements.

  • Prepare and review financial schedules and assist in review of data requests, internal and external reporting, and FERC filings.

  • Prepare and present analysis of earnings and other financial data for management reporting on a monthly basis.

  • Work with internal and external auditors, providing necessary information and answering questions as needed.

  • Perform research of GAAP accounting issues and preparation of accounting position papers. Perform and assist in research of regulatory accounting issues including rate case support, new rate orders, modifications, and implementation.

Required/Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with major in Accounting/Finance or related discipline

  • Four (4) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree

  • Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures

  • Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft, HFM, PowerPlan, etc.) and query tool (WebI)

  • Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point

Desired Qualifications
  • CPA or working toward CPA

  • Advanced degree, preferably in Accounting

  • Six (6) years or more of professional work-related experience

  • Intermediate to Advance skills with Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, MS SQL Server, Power BI, and Power Point

  • Experience with Structured Query Language (SQL)

  • Strong Communication Skills

  • Strong Analytical Skills

  • Teamwork Skills

  • Flexible and Adaptable

Working Conditions
  • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.

  • Office Environment

  • M-F 5-8s (3 days in office; 2 days remote)

Specific Requirements
  • Must have 3+ years (6+ desired) of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree

  • Years of prior equivalent work related experience in lieu of a degree is N/A unless grandfathered in and requires CFO Staff approval.
