Scope of the Role Smith & Wesson, a leading firearms manufacturer, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Procurement to oversee all aspects of procurement and supply chain management across locations in Tennessee, Massachusetts, and Maine. The Director of Procurement will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the company's procurement processes, maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, and driving cost-effective Procurement strategies. This position requires exceptional leadership abilities, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of procurement principles and best practices. Location In-office, non-remote in Maryville, TN. Travel: 25-40%. Responsibilities
- Procurement Strategy: Develop and implement the company's procurement strategy, in alignment with overall business objectives and industry best practices.
- Supplier Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiate contracts, and monitor supplier performance to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and on-time delivery.
- Supply Chain Optimization: Continuously evaluate and improve supply chain processes and procedures to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize risks.
- Vendor Selection and Evaluation: Identify potential vendors, evaluate their capabilities, conduct due diligence, and make informed decisions regarding supplier selection.
- Contract Negotiation: Lead negotiations with suppliers to obtain favorable terms and conditions, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Cost Management: Implement strategies to optimize costs, including exploring alternative sourcing options, negotiating volume discounts, and managing inventory levels.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks in the supply chain, such as supply disruptions, quality issues, or regulatory compliance.
- Team Leadership: Manage a team of procurement professionals, providing guidance, mentoring, and fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
- Market Research: Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and emerging technologies to drive innovation and efficiency in the procurement process.
- Data Analysis: Utilize data analytics tools and techniques to monitor procurement performance, identify areas for improvement, and drive data-driven decision-making.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in procurement, supply chain management, or a related field, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related field.
- Industry knowledge preferred: Strong understanding of the firearms manufacturing industry, including knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance requirements.
- Procurement Expertise: In-depth knowledge of procurement principles, best practices, and emerging trends, with a proven track record of driving cost savings and process improvements.
- Supplier Management: Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts, and managing supplier performance.
- Leadership Skills: Excellent leadership abilities, with a track record of effectively managing and developing teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Analytical Skills: Proficient in data analysis and interpretation, with the ability to leverage data to drive decision-making and identify areas for improvement.
- Communication and Negotiation: Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and build partnerships at all levels of the organization.
- Strategic Thinking: Proven ability to think strategically, develop and execute procurement strategies aligned with business objectives, and adapt to changing market conditions.
- Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes, develop innovative solutions, and drive implementation.
Physical Demands:
- Works in an office environment.
- Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
- Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally.

- The following Personal Protective Equipment is required:
- Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection required when on manufacturing floor
- The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
