Summary of Position Under the direction of the Director of Operations execute the company strategies to ensure the facility, layout and machinery used to produce new and existing products operate at their maximum efficiency and productivity. Continuous improvement of equipment and facility productivity and work quality by anticipating and eliminating potential delays or down time through planning and coordination of manpower, parts, materials and equipment. Manage the organizations overall maintenance, which includes ensuring equipment is repaired and maintained promptly according to manufacturer specifications, use of preventative and predictive maintenance procedures and best practices. In addition, facilitate the repairs in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, painting, HVAC and electrical servicing of all the organizations facilities, locations and properties. Develop, coordinate and manage the engineering function for the improvement of processes and equipment through the analysis design and use of capital equipment, budgets, layouts, equipment certifications etc. Principal Responsibilities
  • Oversee and direct maintenance personnel, equipment installation, facilities & equipment repair, and preventative maintenance for all Guhring Facilities.
  • Prepare work schedules, assign work, and oversee the work product to ensure efficiency and quality.
  • Manage the manufacturing engineering function for the continuous improvement of processes and productivity of the equipment and facilities. Ensuring the proper design and specification, installation testing and qualification of equipment and facility projects.
  • Inspect, evaluate and maintain facilities, grounds and related equipment for all Guhring locations.
  • Develop and coordinate outside contractors to perform equipment installation activities, repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment, building and grounds.
  • Communicate with upper management, supervisors and lead workers all problems/concerns regarding workers, equipment schedules, etc.
  • Purchase and manage all related maintenance supplies and plant equipment repair parts for all equipment in all facilities.
  • Develop and maintain a predictive / Preventative Maintenance programs for all applicable equipment and machinery across all facilities. Ensure routine calibrations on equipment is performed.
  • Plan, budget, and schedule capital equipment and facilities improvements including cost estimates, bid sheets, facility layouts, and contracts.
  • Maintain records / logs, inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA, DNR an EPA regulations at all facilities.
  • Promote, implement and enforce safe working practices at machinery and facilities at all times. Strive to eliminate hazardous acts, conditions and attitudes. Maintain safe working conditions and cleanliness of facility work areas for a professional image at all times.
  • Establish work rules and area restrictions which will promote safe methods of machinery operation and material or stock handling.
  • Coordinate, train, monitor and document the training of new employees; maintain training records, evaluate on-going training needs of workers and report recommendations to VP of Operations. Provide technical support as needed.
  • Prepare employee performance evaluations; conduct formal reviews with employees; recommend appropriate salary adjustments.
  • Develop and maintain positive employee relations and ensure open lines of communication with employees.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures.
  • Approve vacation schedules and other employee requests for time away from work. Communicate all scheduling issues with VP of Operations, assist in developing appropriate work schedule for the coming week and determining overtime assignments, auditing work for quality and timely completion.
  • Other duties as assigned.
education Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Plant or Facilities Management or continuing education toward degree. Education requirements maybe waived in lieu of more than ten years of related experience. Must be willing to participate in on-going educational classes and seminars to maintain an appropriate level of technical and professional skills/knowledge required to successfully perform the duties of this position.
Skills/experience
  • Minimum of eight years of management experience in a precision CNC Machining environment. Experience maybe waived in lieu of appropriate college level training or technical school degree.
  • Journeyman machinist preferred.
  • Must be able to work independently, making both routine and emergency decisions without direct supervision or input from the VP of Operations.
  • Computer literate, able to use PC for basic recordkeeping and generating summary activity reports. Should have demonstrated ability to apply ISO 9001 quality and corrective action standards, SPC procedures, time and attendance and data collection procedures.
  • Appropriate communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow blueprints, shop routings and specific engineering notes related to unique customer specifications.
  • Must have thorough understanding of company policies and procedures as well as all applicable federal, state and local laws that relate to employee safety and welfare. Must have ability to react and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Have basic math and trigonometry skills.
  • Demonstrated mechanical and electrical knowledge and repair abilities.
  • Certifications in OSHA programs and practices preferred.
