Description

The Ready-Mix Sales representative is a key cornerstone of the business growth strategy of Knife River Corporation and serves as the primary link between the company and customers.

Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:



  • Make direct calls on customers. Assist customers regarding service pricing, order taking, merchandising and product training as needed for all Ready-Mix products.
  • Daily review, resolution and approval of customer pricing.
  • Handles inside and outside sales of products. Follow through on potential sales leads including obtaining necessary information such as job specifications and take off of projects.
  • Develop product knowledge through value added sales, trade shows, seminars, customer questions, and product quality resolution. Ability to identify best product for customer needs and advise.
  • Prepare quotes/bids for projects using appropriate worksheets that provide company unit prices. Discuss costs and schedule with operating divisions as well as providing project opportunities and challenges and other project information advice to appropriate internal staff.
  • Follow through on customer satisfaction on Division products and services.
  • Resolve customer complaints professionally and timely.
  • Provide product forecasting to Manager.
  • Communicate effectively and work with difficult people under high stress situations.
  • Immediately report concerns regarding billing, credit, delivery and quality of product to appropriate internal departments and coordinate meetings with other departments, as needed, to address customer concerns.
  • Reads trade journals, newspapers, and other publications to be informed of new developments in the construction industry, government or the community.
  • Weekly approval of vendor invoices.
  • Create/update customer orders in company software.
  • Report (weekly) on customer calls and market trends.
  • Develop product knowledge through value added sales, trade shows, customer questions, and product quality resolution. Ability to identify best product for customer needs and advise.
  • Assist Manager with month end reporting.
  • Assist with billing, collection, terminal, vendors, inventories, supplies, shipments, and other miscellaneous issues, etc.
  • Controls expenses to meet budget guidelines.
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes and ensures that they are communicated and implemented within the team.
  • Always works safely and takes action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes and behaviors. Ensure company safety goals are achieved and be a role model of company safety and environmental policies, procedures and behaviors.
  • Promotes company's Mission and Vision statements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


        Minimum Skills Qualifications:



        • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
        • General education, GED or high school diploma or equivalent.
        • Aptitude for communicating with customers, scales & dispatcher personnel, accounting team and truck drivers.
        • Problem-Solving skills and the capacity to identify challenges and implement effective solutions for customers and prospects both externally and internally.
        • Ability to operate computer terminal and manage multiple tasks at the same time.
        • Legible handwriting, good organizational, communication, math and writing skills.
        • Must be people oriented, able to provide exceptional customer service, empathetic and flexible.


        Preferred Requirements:



        • Associates degree in marketing and sales or comparable experience
        • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, (Outlook, Word, Excel, OneNote, etc.)


        Minimum Requirements



        • Possess good judgment - must pass the job description physical capacity functions test.
        • High School Diploma a must.
        • Valid driver's license, with acceptable driving record.
        • Knowledge of basic computer skills to include MS Office programs.
        • Must submit and pass a drug screening and security background check.
        • Familiarity with or willing/able to represent company in the Ready-Mix industry
        • Willing to travel which may include overnight travel.


            Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



            • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
            • Utilization of company computer, various software programs and other office equipment. Use of IT products to manage deadlines, communicate with others, and develop spreadsheets (e.g. EXCEL).
            • Use of company IT programs to project forecasts and pricing.
            • Ability to handle multiple priorities with short deadlines while maintaining quality results.
            • Know the product assigned to sell.
            • Able to work on weekends as required.
            • Able to work in varying environments including main offices, office trailers, batch plants, jobsites, etc.
            • Responsible, self-starter with good work ethic.
            • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
            • Must be able to work in a non-smoking workplace.
