Registered Nurse - Urgent Care

Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team. Triages patients and responds appropriately according to protocol and nursing assessment. Clinical Nurse must be able to work variable shifts including 12-hour shifts, Saturdays, Sundays, Holidays, early mornings, and evenings as needed. Shifts locations will include Parnassus, Bayfront and various locations.

Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of stated behaviors. Carries out legal responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act. Accountable to the Nurse Manager for overall work performance. Respond to developing patient care issues during clinical hours, supporting nursing staff and providers with recommendations and intervention, as needed. Respond appropriately in emergencies. They can initiate and assist in CPR. Understands the procedure for medical emergencies, code blue and other emergency / disaster situations. Embraces and role models PRIDE values (Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Diversity and Excellence) and AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation and Thanks) concepts as part of approach to all assigned tasks, responsibilities and interactions with peers, internal and external customers, and patients in person, by phone and in while engaging in electronic communications.

Required Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of registered nurse clinical experience in Emergency Department
  • One year recent Urgent Care experience

  • Proficiency and working use of ESI Triage

  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing degree
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficiency with EPIC
  • First Aid experience

  • ACLS, PALS

License/Certifications

  • Active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.


Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
