Summary of Position Functions

The IT Support Specialist is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. The Systems Analyst will participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This position will ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values.

Essential Position Functions

  • Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Performs regular security monitoring to identify potential intrusions.
  • Provides technical end-user support, including researching user complaints, researching issues, answering technical questions, and/or assisting with application revisions.
  • Repairs and recovers from hardware or software failures. Coordinates and communicates with impacted users.
  • Discusses systems problems with managers and users to determine their exact nature. Defines the goals of the system and the steps necessary to achieve them.
  • Recommends procedural and programming logic to improve proficiency and accuracy.
  • Tests systems and works with programmers to troubleshoot systems as required to eliminate errors and issues.
  • Applies OS patches and system firmware upgrades on a regular basis and updates administrative tools and utilities. Configures/adds new services as necessary.
  • Assists with end-user training as necessary while providing a high level of customer service.
  • Upgrades and configures system software that supports GIS infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications per project or operational needs.
  • Monitors and maintains systems to ensure system integrity and security, which may include duplicating and backing up data, managing user accounts and authorizations, maintaining software security, and/or performing other related activities.
  • Maintains operational, configuration, or other procedures within a documentation system.
  • Performs periodic performance reporting per request.
  • Performs ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configures CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Solid understanding of current information systems in a mostly Windows environment including mobile devices.
  • Ability to anticipate problems and take decisive action, giving regard to impact on all users
  • Strong analysis and design skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with both technical and non-technical personnel
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and allocate assigned resources to ensure projects are efficiently and effectively completed
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a complex and dynamic environment

Educational/Certification Requirement

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related a related field.
  • Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Required Experience

  • Two to Four years supporting a Windows systems environment.
  • Microsoft Products, including Office 365 and Azure Infrastructure

Work environment

  • This position requires most of the work to be accomplished in an office environment

Travel required

  • May require some travel (10% at times)
