This role combines deep automation engineering expertise, technical leadership, and platform strategy to drive the maturation and modernization of a highly visible automation program supporting critical business operations across the organization. As the platform evolves, this engineer will play a key role in evaluating and responsibly integrating AI-assisted engineering capabilities throughout the software delivery lifecycle. As a Principal Engineer, you will serve as a trusted technical advisor for automation architecture decisions, establish engineering standards, guide platform direction, and partner with engineering and business stakeholders-including VP and executive-level leaders-to deliver scalable, maintainable automation solutions that improve operational efficiency and accelerate delivery. Job Summary This role is responsible for defining, governing, and advancing the enterprise robotic process automation (RPA) architecture used to automate critical business processes across the organization. The Principal Engineer is a recognized technical leader in automation platform design, engineering standards, and architectural direction. The Principal Engineer provides technical leadership across automation platforms, orchestration frameworks, integration architectures, automation engineering standards, and operational support models. This role engages regularly with VP and executive-level stakeholders to communicate platform direction, provide technical recommendations, and influence technology decisions aligned to business objectives. As the platform evolves, this role will also guide the responsible adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices within automation delivery workflows. Working within a highly collaborative engineering environment, this role partners with stakeholders across technology and business organizations to deliver scalable automation capabilities, improve platform efficiency, and establish reusable engineering frameworks that support long-term growth. Success in this role is measured through automation platform reliability, scalability, engineering productivity, architectural quality, reusable framework adoption, successful modernization initiatives, and the ability to influence technology decisions that advance enterprise automation strategy. Main Responsibilities Enterprise RPA Architecture & Delivery Lead the design, implementation, and evolution of enterprise robotic process automation (RPA) solutions, automation frameworks, and platform capabilities that improve operational efficiency and support business-critical processes. Automation Technical Leadership Provide technical leadership through automation architecture reviews, engineering governance, mentoring, solution design oversight, and engineering standards development across enterprise automation initiatives. Provide technical recommendations that help inform platform strategy, modernization priorities, and long-term technology investment decisions. Automation Strategy & Platform Modernization Define and execute strategies that advance enterprise automation capabilities through reusable frameworks, orchestration improvements, API-driven integrations, AI-assisted engineering capabilities, and the evolution toward intelligent automation practices. Innovation & Emerging Technologies Research, evaluate, and prototype emerging automation and AI technologies that improve automation scalability, developer productivity, platform performance, and operational effectiveness. Documentation & Technical Standards Develop and maintain architecture documentation, automation standards, implementation guidance, governance models, and executive-ready technical materials that support quality, compliance, and maintainability. The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate's actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range. At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee's eligible earnings in the prior year. Certain positions in Customer Care are eligible for monthly bonuses based on individual and/or team performance.
