The department of Athletics at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Video Coordinator for WVU Football.

About the Opportunity

This position will perform a wide range of duties related to the organization, implementation and maintenance of all aspects of the team video and game analysis work in support of the football program within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics in accordance with NCAA Bylaws.

What You'll Do

  • Prohibited duties include, but are not limited to, on-field skill or coaching instruction, telephone contact with prospective student-athletes, high school or junior college coaches, prospects' academic counselors, and personnel at recruiting services. This prohibition also restricts evaluation of prospective student-athletes, and involvement in selecting prospects for official visits or prospects recruiting itinerary.
  • Assist the videotaping of all football practices and football games including the assignment of videographers and preparing shooting schedules for each practice.
  • Assist with Editing and process all opponent and self-scout videotape for football using game analysis software and/or non-linear editing software, including, but not limited to, in-season practice sessions, games, spring practice, off-season opponent preparation and recruiting material.
  • Provide training and support to coaches on specific software applications.
  • Maintain storage and archiving of video and copies for football by logging and organizing server library.
  • Produce specialized videos for each coach using various video editing techniques.
  • Assist with coordination and schedule the use of all video equipment for football, including use of cameras, tape machines, monitors, and projectors. Instruct coaches and players in the use of video and computer equipment. Recommend appropriate replacement items as well as upgrades of equipment and software.
  • Assist as a liaison to the Head Football Coach and assistant football coaches on all aspects of videotaping for team analysis and production.
  • Assist with the exchange of videotapes with opponents, conference office and supervisor of officials for football. Oversee game day video operations with opponents. Serve as a liaison to the Big 12 Conference on matters related to team video exchange.
  • Assist with the Management of the recruiting database and video organization.
  • Assist with the development of software and hardware as it relates to team video. Serve as a liaison to the Office of Informational Technology for the football video system. Serve as a liaison to software vendors and coordinates regular software upgrades. Provide day-to-day oversight to the football video network computer system.
  • Attend annual technical support conferences and seminars as schedule allows.
  • Assist with regular preventive maintenance schedule of video and computer equipment. Examine effectiveness of current equipment to meet the goals of the coaches.
  • Assist with packing and traveling all necessary video equipment for transportation to each game, including postseason bowl games. Setup temporary workstations for coaches to provide continuous scouting and game preparation capabilities.
  • Research new options for equipment and software. Submit annual equipment, software and supply requests to the supervisor.
  • Assist with training and supervision of student assistants and freelance camera operators
  • Maintain and update the televisions in Milan Puskar Stadium.
  • Assist with current content being loaded on the video boards in Milan Puskar Stadium.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Football Video Coordinator and/or Associate Athletic Director of Football External Affairs.
  • Report directly to the Football Video Coordinator and indirectly to the Associate Athletic Director of Football External Affairs; must also work closely with all others involved with carrying out the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletic program.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with all rules, regulations, policies and guidelines of West Virginia University, the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA; must adhere to NCAA Bylaw 11.1 Conduct of Athletic Personnel. Failure to adhere to these policies will result in appropriate disciplinary action including possible suspension and termination.
  • Represent the University on the highest professional level with dignity, integrity, and strength of character and will exhibit ethical behavior; must respect the rights and dignity of individuals with sensitivity to problems that may arise from racial and ethnical differences.
  • Demonstrate a cooperative attitude towards all sports within the intercollegiate athletic program.
  • Possess the ability to adapt to any situation, make decisions and work independently; position must have the ability to build and maintain relationships with student-athletes, coaches, staff members and constituencies; required to use creative abilities to develop new techniques and approaches in dealing with many issues controlled by this position; responsibilities of the position are ever-changing and require constant education; requires the ability to adapt to any situation and make decisions.
  • Manage sensitive and confidential information related to student-athletes, coaches and staff utilizing discretion and correct decisions. Failure to use proper discretion at required level could result in major and significant embarrassment to the University and/or have a significant impact on image, revenues and eligibility of student-athletes.
  • Manage professional and personal time to be handle time sensitive-issues, tight deadlines, extended hours beyond the normal workday, weekend work, regular travel in-season and on-call availability.
  • Faithfully and diligently execute related duties of the department, as requested or assigned by the Football Video Coordinator and/or Associate Athletic Director of Football External Affairs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience working in coaches' video - experience as a Graduate Assistant is acceptable
  • Strong video and computer operating skills, preferably in athletics setting
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment

  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCA Division I intercollegiate athletics
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA and conference guidelines, policies, rules and regulations with the ability to interpret, apply, enforce and explain such policies and rules
  • Maintain knowledge of state and University policies and procedures
  • Exhibit strong creative, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of correct English, grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure
  • Demonstrated ability to function professionally under high stress and confrontational circumstances

  • Ability to stay abreast of information impacting the affected area
  • Ability to maintain proper unit attendance and punctuality standards, work extended hours including nights and weekends (often with extensive walking and standing)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effected areas of involvement
  • Ability to make administrative / procedural decisions and judgments
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the rules, terminology and skills related to football and other intercollegiate sports
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operating DVSport game analysis software
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operating DVSport software and hardware, specifically the football versions
  • Demonstrated ability to install and maintain peripheral computer software
  • Maintain OSHA certification to operate an aerial lift, if applicable
