What to Expect
To build a world of amazing abundance, Tesla needs to deploy its clean energy products - from electric vehicles to battery packs to robots - at unprecedented scale. All of these energy products require a wide array of refined materials that form the backbone of the future electrified economy. Tesla's Refining organization is directly working to make this future a reality. Specifically, the Technical Programs team helps manage and execute capital projects that unlock production of critical minerals, materials, and chemicals that enable Tesla to vertically integrate, secure supply, and lower costs of final products. If you are a highly motivated and purpose-driven Project Engineer ready to solve novel problems and build projects on a shattering scale, this is your moment. At Tesla, Project Engineers wear lots of hats: supporting early-stage engineering, managing external vendors, conducting cost tradeoffs, and tracking project schedules. In other words, Project Engineers on the Technical Programs team are the glue that keeps the teams aligned and the engine that drives the organization forward to deliver its value to Tesla.
What You'll Do
Project Management: Define and track action items, facilitate meetings and distribute clear notes and decisions, and promote transparency and communication across workstreamsEngineering Coordination: Track front-end engineering deliverables, ensuring they properly communicate technical specifications required for downstream activities. Additionally, facilitate cross-functional engineering reviews with the proper stakeholdersEquipment Procurement: Support with procurement and tracking of capital equipment across the projectSchedule Tracking: Develop and enforce an engineering schedule with the pilot development, commercial technology, and infrastructure teams to ensure timeliness of project execution and deliveryVendor Relationships: Conduct activities with external engineering partners and equipment providers, ensuring timely delivery of deliverables to support internal discipline team activitiesScope Ownership: Take projects and problems from concept all the way through to completion, documenting key outcomes along the way and formally handing off to downstream owners when completeProcess Engineering: Develop process flow diagrams, simulation models, mass/energy balances, and other calculations to progress the project from basic engineering into procurement and detailed designTechnical Design: Support with miscellaneous process engineering, mechanical design, or general engineering tasks as needed to maintain progress on critical project activities
What You'll Bring
Degree or equivalent experience in Chemical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering1-5 years of experience in engineering and/or project management within process industries (e.g. refining, oil & gas, chemicals, recycling, cell manufacturing, industrial gases, or other minerals/metals processing)Demonstrated experience managing capital projects from concept to completionWorking knowledge of stage-gate project delivery processes and E/P/C project lifecycleA proactive, collaborative, and inclusive approach to problem-solving and decision-makingStrong interest in the battery minerals and metals supply chain and macro trends in electrificationDetail-oriented approach with strong recordkeeping and organizational skillsAbility to work cross functionally with engineering, construction, operations, and supply chainExcellent communication and documentation skills with ability to understand complex problems and summarize in a simple way to a wide audience
