Job Summary

Under general direction of the Foundation Plant Services (FPS) Director, supervise and manage the financial operations for FPS. Independently oversee the financial operations including directly supervising administrative staff, and providing leadership and management in the areas of Purchasing, Accounts Payable/Receivable, Customer Service, and general office management. The incumbent will work closely with the CAO for the Phoenix Cluster regarding financial management including: reviewing and approving financial transactions; preparing and reviewing monthly summaries; preparing budgets and submitting proposals; post-award fund management; and reviewing and managing of sales and service activity accounts. Serves as the account manager for all FPS accounts including contracts, grants, gifts, endowments, state funds, and sales and service activity accounts.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Experience in leadership and decision-making to lead meetings, focus on key issues; research, gather and integrate information; and formulate recommendations and develop approaches to evaluate and address business needs.
  • Experience working in purchasing, A/P, A/R, travel, entertainment, internal controls, and skills to train individuals in these areas.
  • Fund management experience working with private, state, and federal funds including budgeting, financial reporting, cost-sharing regulations, and effort commitment.
  • Interpersonal skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, ability to multi-task effectively in a high volume environment, organizational skills and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to independently gather required information to organize, and perform financial analysis assignments.
  • Proven ability using spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of fund accounting (University and College preferred) and governmental laws and regulations as related to Extramural funds financial responsibilities.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.

Department Overview

Foundation Plant Services (FPS) is a self-supporting service center in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at UC Davis whose primary function is to produce, maintain, and distribute virus-tested plant materials of deciduous fruit and nut trees, grapevines, strawberries, and roses for research and public commercial use. FPS also operates the National Importation program through which grape, fruit and nut tree, and rose germplasm is imported, tested for disease, and made available for public distribution. FPS manages 140 acres of fields in and around Davis. The gross income of FPS is approximately $8 million per year.
