Job Summary

Board-certified or -eligible physician providing Hematology and Oncology clinical services at the Placer Health Center (Rocklin). The physician will perform all the duties of a clinical hematologist and medical oncologist with a commitment of 100% clinical effort (80% direct patient care and 20% indirect care/ administrative time). The physician will see classical hematology and oncology patients. The position is based at the Placer Health Center Cancer Clinic with up to one half-day per week at the Comprehensive Cancer Center, but in times of need, the incumbent might be asked to see patients at other UCDH clinics.

  • Must be licensed to practice medicine in the state of California.
  • Must be board certified in Internal Medicine.
  • Must be board certified in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology.
  • Must provide current DEA certification.
  • Must obtain CITI Certification within one month of hire as a condition of employment.
  • Must possess a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Must provide Residency Diploma.
  • No minimum work experience required.
  • Knowledge of scientific research methods, and certification of federal guidelines related to conducting clinical trials.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance procedures.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Demonstrated adequate computer skills to perform job duties and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with community-based physicians, acts as a representative of the UC Cancer Center through active participation on the local Tumor Board, Cancer Committee, and other medical staff committees as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a professional manner with regards to patients, families, colleagues; comply with all medical staff policies and procedures; and to be an effective communicator with a broad range of people.

Department Overview

The Division of Hematology Oncology is one of 14 divisions in the Department of Internal Medicine, in the School of Medicine, at UC Davis Health. Hematology Oncology includes approximately 42 faculty (physician and research), six MSP physicians, 11 advanced practice providers and other clinical staff, and more than 50 research staff and administrative/ financial staff. Division ambulatory clinical services are located in the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center in Sacramento, C Street Clinic in Sacramento, the Placer Health Center in Rocklin and the Cancer Clinic in Folsom.

Department Specific Job Scope

During the day, the physician will see patients in the clinic and evaluate and initiate therapy for those patients. The physician will be scheduled one half-day/week in outpatient clinic at the UCDCCC. On average, the physician may see four to eight patients per four-hour clinic session (expectation is one new patient and six follow up patients per half-day, which may start as four new patients per half-day and could be eight follow up patients per half-day as the practice is established).

The UCDCCC is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday, during which time, the physician is expected to be available for patients during his/her scheduled clinic activities. The physician's time will be allocated as 100% clinical effort (this includes time needed for completion of medical records, timely follow-up messages, and care coordination).

The physician's time will be allocated as follows:
80% direct clinical care
20% indirect care, administrative, education and training activities

When possible, the physician may attend monthly medical meetings:
Hematology Oncology division meetings (mandatory)
Hospital or Cancer Center committees
Mega Rounds and Journal Club
UC Davis tumor boards
Educational activities

Evaluation of acceptable performance will be based on the following:

1. Timeliness of medical records completion
2. Participation in medical staff activities at UC Davis
3. Participation in clinical trials
4. Peer review evaluations
5. Patient satisfaction surveys
6. Participation at Tumor Board and Cancer Committee at the Network site, where applicable
7. Generation of target levels of RVU's per year
8. Malpractice history

Minimum qualifications: In addition to such other University policies and procedures as may be applicable, the Employee shall, during the term of this appointment, meet and maintain the following qualifications:

1. Employee shall maintain a current license to practice medicine in the State of California;
2. Employee shall have completed a medical internship at an accredited institution, completed a residency program in Internal Medicine at an accredited institution, and completed a medical fellowship in Hematology and/or Oncology;
3. Employee must be Board Certified and participating in Maintenance of Certification in Internal Medicine, and Board Certified or participating in Maintenance of Certification in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology within two years of accepting the position;
4. Employee shall have possession of a valid California medical license and DEA license at the time of appointment; 5. Employee shall be an active member in good standing with full privileges of the Medical Staff of the University of California, Davis Medical Center ("UCDMC") or other hospitals where work is assigned by the Division Chief;
6. Employee shall maintain a volunteer clinical faculty appointment;
7. Employee shall maintain a federal DEA license without restrictions, to the extent necessary to render professional medical services pursuant to the job duties and responsibilities;
8. Employee shall maintain the ability to render professional medical services, unimpaired by drug or alcohol use, injury, illness or mental incompetence, subject to the University's obligations and the state law concerning discrimination on the basis of disability, to the extent applicable;
9. Employee must abide by the UCD Health Science Campus Professional Fee Billing Compliance Plan;
10. Employee shall have knowledge of scientific research methods, and certification of federal guidelines related to conducting clinical trials;
11. Employee shall have knowledge of quality assurance procedures;
12. Employee shall have excellent verbal and written communications skills;
13. Employee shall have adequate computer skills to perform job duties and responsibilities;
14. Employee shall have effective patient care "bedside manner";
15. Employee will maintain CITI certification; and
16. Employee shall work collaboratively with community-based physicians, act as a representative of the UC Cancer Center through active participation on the local Tumor Board, Cancer Committee, and other medical staff committees as required.

Failure to maintain these qualifications may lead to immediate termination of the Employment contract.
