| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Department of Asian & Middle Eastern Studies at
UNC-Chapel Hill is the state's flagship program in this area of study, pursuing research and offering instruction in Asian and Middle Eastern cultures and nine Asian and Middle Eastern languages. The department offers an undergraduate BA with six different concentrations, nine undergraduate minors, and an MA. The department is involved in various study abroad programs, sponsors a wide variety of cultural and outreach events, and is a partner in many of the University's global initiatives. The department has 31 permanent faculty and around a dozen more temporary faculty, visiting scholars, and graduate TAs, all supported by a team of four permanent staff. |

The ASA's many other duties include general office tasks like distributing mail and keeping copiers running. They will also be responsible for gathering, organizing, and maintaining records. The
ASA will be the main person handling space issues for the department, which includes making space reservations and coordinating with Facilities as needed to handle issues in multiple buildings. They are also responsible for purchasing and parts of the department website. |
