Position Summary

The CAD Technician is responsible for creating and maintaining 3D models and technical drawings while supporting additive manufacturing operations. This role combines CAD design, 3D printing, post-processing, and cross-functional collaboration to produce high-quality prototype and production parts.


Key Responsibilities
CAD Design & 3D Modeling

  • Create, modify, and maintain 3D models and technical drawings using CAD software, with SolidWorks preferred.
  • Translate sketches, concepts, and engineering requirements into accurate 3D models.
  • Prepare and optimize files for additive manufacturing, including print orientation and support generation.
  • Maintain organized digital files, drawings, and version control for all design iterations.


3D Printing Operations

  • Set up, operate, and monitor 3D printers, including FDM, SLA, SLS, and similar additive manufacturing systems.
  • Prepare print jobs using slicing software such as Cura, Orca Slicer, or Bambu Studio.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, calibration, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Manage print schedules and production priorities using the project tracking system to ensure timely completion of parts.


Post-Processing & Quality Control

  • Complete post-processing tasks including support removal, sanding, curing, and finishing.
  • Inspect printed components to verify dimensional accuracy, quality, and compliance with specifications.
  • Document production results and contribute to continuous process improvements.


Collaboration & Technical Support

  • Partner with Product Development and Design teams throughout the product development process.
  • Incorporate design revisions based on engineering and customer feedback.
  • Assist with material selection, process optimization, and evaluation of new additive manufacturing technologies.


Qualifications
Required

  • Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in CAD, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software, preferably SolidWorks, or equivalent platforms such as Fusion 360.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing technologies and slicing software.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.


Preferred

  • Hands-on experience with FDM, SLA, SLS, or other additive manufacturing systems.
  • Experience in product development, prototyping, or manufacturing environments.
  • Understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with post-processing techniques and finishing materials.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid work environment consisting of office-based CAD/design work and laboratory/shop-based additive manufacturing activities.
  • May require light physical activity, including lifting materials, climbing ladders, and operating manufacturing equipment.
  • Proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators when required, must be worn while handling designated materials and equipment.
