Overview

The Electrical Engineer will support the development of advanced light scattering instruments, including detection, low noise analog signal acqusition, control electronics, and digital signal processing. This role contributes to both new product development and improvement of existing platforms, working closely with mechanical, optical, systems, and software engineers.



Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

    Assist with new instrument development and existing instrument revisions.
  • Design and evaluate electronic circuits, draw schematics, simulate analog and digital and test circuits using computer and bread board methods.
  • Design and evaluate printed circuit boards (PCB), create layouts, and extract Gerber files for fabrication.
  • Design and evaluate embedded firmware using embedded C, VHDL and Verilog.
  • Use desktop programming or scripting languages to perform test and analysis.
  • Design and draw cables, wiring diagrams, and block diagrams for electrical modules.
  • Specify off the shelf electrical components (i.e. power supplies, power entry modules).
  • Assemble prototype cables and boards for design evaluation and verification.
  • Prepare documentation for managing Engineering Changes (ECO/DCO).
  • Resolve vendor related quality and performance issues.
  • Cognizant of best industry practices.
  • Perform other related tasks as directed by supervisor.


Qualifications

Education

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering
  • 2+ years in mixed-signal electronics or instrumentation

Technical Skills

  • Analog design (low-noise amplifiers, photodetection circuits)
  • PCB desig, fabrication, and troubleshooting (Altium preferred)
  • Signal integrity, noise reduction, grounding/shielding techniques
  • Lab tools: oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, DAQ

Preferred

  • Experience with optical instrumentation or laser-based systems
  • Experience with FPGA design and programming
  • Familiarity with data acquisition and high-speed signal processing
  • Exposure to firmware or embedded systems
