Senior System Architect - Connectivity Technology Enablers

Stellantis
United States, Michigan, Auburn Hills
Jun 27, 2026

Within TECH Research organization, the Advanced Connectivity Technologies team (12 people) drives innovation in next-generation wireless communication systems for automotive applications.

As a System Architect - Connectivity Technology Enablers, you will contribute to the definition, evaluation, and maturation of advanced connectivity solutions enabling future vehicle platforms. You will work at the intersection of research, system architecture, and innovation, translating emerging technologies into structured, feasible automotive system concepts.

You will be part of an international organizational unit supported with local functional management which will require to have frequent cross regional interactions involving teammates in France and Italy.

You will play a key role in assessing technical feasibility, system-level integration, and architectural trade-offs, while contributing to the broader Stellantis connectivity roadmap.

With this role you will be requested to cover US specific customers and their needs and to connect with US specific eco-system (standardization, and local suppliers and partners eco-system) including internal stakeholders (senior fellows, product owners, AVP, MODULES, PLAN and Brands)

Key Responsibilities

System Architecture & Technical Leadership

  • Define and contribute to end-to-end system architectures for advanced connectivity enablers (e.g., NTN, 5G Advanced, 6G, V2X, connectivity for autonomy).
  • Translate product and stakeholder needs into:

    • System requirements
    • Technical specifications
    • Interface definitions

  • Ensure architectural consistency across vehicle, edge computing , and cloud domains.
  • Perform system-level trade-off analysis (performance, cost, scalability, reliability).

Innovation & Technology Assessment

  • Evaluate emerging connectivity technologies, including:

    • 5G Advanced / 6G
    • NR-V2X / C-V2X
    • Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN - LEO/GEO)
    • Edge computing, network slicing, private networks, mmWave

  • Lead or contribute to feasibility studies and proof-of-concepts aligned with Technology Readiness Levels (TRL).
  • Support the transition from research to development programs.

Simulation & Technical Analysis

  • Contribute to system-level and link-level evaluations (PHY/MAC) using tools such as MATLAB, ns-3 or similar.
  • Analyze wireless system performance under automotive constraints (mobility, latency, coverage, reliability).

Ecosystem & Standardization

  • Contribute to and monitor standardization bodies:

    • 3GPP, SAE, IEEE
    • Industry alliances such as 5GAA

  • Collaborate with industrial and academic partners to identify innovation opportunities.
  • Support preparation of technical reports, publications, and invention disclosures.

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in one or more domains:

    • Automotive telematics
    • IoT connectivity systems
    • Telecom infrastructure or connected services

Technical Skills :

  • Strong knowledge of wireless communication fundamentals:

    • PHY/MAC layers (modulation, coding, channel access)
    • Radio propagation and system constraints

  • Familiarity with:

    • Cellular technologies (4G, 5G, evolution to 5G Advanced, 6G)
    • V2X, Wi-Fi, GNSS/positioning

  • Understanding of :

    • Telematics hardware constraints (modems, antennas, multi-SIM, redundancy)
    • Vehicle-to-cloud architectures and integration

  • Exposure to automotive cybersecurity and secure communication architectures
  • Experience with simulation tools (MATLAB, ns-3 or equivalent)

Soft Competencies :

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to structure complex systems and communicate architecture clearly
  • Proactive and curious, with a strong interest in emerging technologies
  • Ability to work both independently and in cross-functional environments
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills in an international context

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Masters or Phd in electrical engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with standardization activities (3GPP, IEEE, SAE)
  • Prior experience in research or innovation projects
  • Contributions to publications, patents, or technical white papers
