The Opportunity:

Ashurst Perkins Coie Global Loans / banking practice is recognized by its clients to be one of the most innovative and solution orientated legal practices in the city today.

As the challenges to our clients have increased over the last few years we have stayed true to our core offering of legal technical excellence wrapped in commercial awareness. This has enabled Ashurst to continue to fulfil the role of being a Trusted Advisor to our clients and strengthened our close relationships.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Legal Expertise: Proven experience in leveraged finance within a peer large-scale global firm or a recognized boutique finance practice.
  • Transactional Range: Demonstrated familiarity with a variety of debt structures, particularly acquisition financing, secured lending, and/or private credit transactions.
  • Technical Execution: Ability to draft, review, and negotiate primary loan documentation and ancillary certificates, managing all aspects of a closing in a manner consistent with a junior-to-mid-level ranking
  • Commercial Acumen: A pragmatic, solution-oriented approach to transactions; ability to understand the underlying business drivers for both lenders and borrowers.
  • Adaptability: A fast learner who is comfortable pivoting between different types of finance (e.g., transitioning from fund finance to a restructuring mandate).
  • Cultural Competency: Comfort working across borders and time zones; a "team player" mentality is essential for collaborating with our international offices.
  • Academic Credentials: J.D. or LL.M. from a top-tier law school and admission to the New York State Bar (or eligibility to waive in)

This is a full-time, permanent role based in our New York office.

About you:

As a key member of our New York office, you will engage in a high-volume, diverse portfolio of transactions, including acquisition finance, infrastructure finance, fund finance, general leveraged finance and restructuring/special situations. Our practice is uniquely positioned to offer associates a broad transactional desk, covering everything from most types of leveraged loans, strategic debt purchases and sales, to other high-grade and bespoke secured financings, including debt finance across the energy, utilities and commodities sector.

Salary Banding: $225,000 - $420,000 per annum
