The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia invites applicants for the role of Director of Undergraduate Admissions & Recruiting (DUAR). The DUAR is a dynamic, engaging, and team-oriented member of the McIntire community who represents and promotes academic programs to prospective students and families. The DUAR leads all facets of the McIntire Office of Undergraduate Admission, which include: creating and managing the undergraduate admissions recruiting and advising strategy, including leadership and facilitation of the COMM Cohort program; oversight of both the internal and external transfer admission processes; directing the work of all Undergraduate Admissions team members; and collaborating with School leadership on the undergraduate admission process within the greater University and national/international business school landscape. This role is not limited solely to this position description but involves collaborating and contributing in a team environment to provide the highest level of service possible, with a commitment to continuous improvement. The McIntire Office of Undergraduate Admission is responsible for all facets of undergraduate recruitment and admission. This includes planning and executing information sessions and presentations; recruiting and advising prospective Commerce students throughout the academic year; facilitating internal and external admissions processes for the B.S. in Commerce; providing internal admissions and advising for McIntire-sponsored minor degree programs; and engaging with a broad constituency through multiple communication methods. The McIntire School of Commerce is nationally recognized as one of the premier undergraduate business programs in the United States. The Bachelor of Science in Commerce is a distinctive three-year program, preceded by one year of coursework completed at another school within the University before students matriculate into McIntire. Admission is highly selective, with students applying at the conclusion of their first year. Specific Areas of Responsibility: Office of Undergraduate Admission Leadership
- Provide leadership and strategic direction setting for all undergraduate admission-related services offered at McIntire.
- Develop and implement new admissions and recruitment pathways to McIntire programs based on the growing/changing needs of the School (e.g. direct enroll, first year admission cycle, minor admission cycles, etc.).
- Supervise and lead Admissions team members.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the Office of Undergraduate Admission.
- Develop operating policies and procedures; review continuously.
- Develop strategic marketing, recruitment, and operational plans annually and collaborate with internal marketing units to execute plans.
- Collaborate with other units within the School, i.e., Marketing and Communications, Advancement, Faculty, etc., to ensure internally consistent messaging and highly engaging and effective communication.
- Develop and execute assessments of all programs, strategic communications, and admissions processes.
- Serve as the key leader representing admissions within the Student Success Office and McIntire. Attend meetings and provide information to enhance the school's overall operations when needed.
- Represent the School on various University Committees and Task Forces as needed.
- Oversee the implementation and effective utilization of technology and software solutions to improve and manage all admission and recruitment efforts.
- Collaborate with the McIntire graduate recruiting and admissions team to ensure synergies in efforts and to build pipelines into the graduate program admissions pool
- Other duties and projects impacting Undergraduate Admissions or Student Success and Academic Operations
Undergraduate Admissions Recruitment and Advising
- Serve as key contact with University constituents related to all recruiting and yield events, public inquiries and questions regarding admission to the B.S. in Commerce program. Including fielding student and parents' post-admission inquiries after a competitive admission process.
- Advise prospective students; ensure quality and consistency of advising through continual assessment and training of Admissions team members.
- Coordinate information sessions and other recruiting and advising events and programs.
- Steward the McIntire Ambassador Program; ensure continued training and evaluation of Ambassador touchpoints.
- Facilitate the creation and deployment of all strategic communication and marketing collateral in collaboration with the McIntire Marketing and Communication functional area. Including continual updates to McIntire's Admission website.
- Collaborate with McIntire and University colleagues and student organizations on events and programs.
- Collaborate with the Dean, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Programs and the Associate Dean for Student Success to establish recruiting goals and yields.
- Manage all facets of the Commerce Cohort Program, including recruitment, selection, advising, and mentorship of student mentors; serve as a primary instructor/facilitator for all courses associated with the program; facilitate all marketing and promotional activities; participate in fundraising initiatives; steward the Commerce Cohort Near Peer Mentors; oversee reporting and data related to student success.
- Work with McIntire Affinity Groups, Commerce Related Student Organizations (CRSOs), and University student groups on programming and initiatives related to recruiting and advising.
Internal Transfer Admission
- Chair the Undergraduate Admission Committee.
- Oversee the internal admission process and manage the support of the Admission Committee.
- Communicate admissions process information with internal and external constituents as appropriate and necessary.
- Ensure Slate and other admission systems are continually updated to support the admissions process.
- Oversee the reporting and analysis of admissions cycle data.
- Collaborate with colleagues on new student onboarding and transition to matriculation.
External Transfer Admission
- Serve as the key point of contact for the UVA Office of Undergraduate Admission in all stages of the admission cycle, including initial and second readings and offers.
- Oversee the advising of prospective external transfer students; ensure quality and consistency of advising through continual assessment and training of Admissions team members; focus recruitment on prospective students from Virginia Community Colleges.
- Oversee the audit and review of matriculated transfer students' academic requirements and coordinate transfer credit with the McIntire Registrar.
- Collaborate with Student Success colleagues on the onboarding process for McIntire external transfer students.
- Track the academic progress of transfer students to inform the external transfer recruitment and admission decision process.
Minor Admission and Advising: Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Real Estate, and General Business Minor
- Collaborate with School leaders and pan-University minor leaders on developing admission procedures, processes, and policies for students
- Develop and manage all strategic marketing initiatives for internal and external constituents in collaboration with other McIntire Marketing and Communications areas.
- Collaborate with minor Admission Committees on the selection of candidates for the various programs; create guidance on university-compliant selection processes; oversee each minor admission process and manage the support of the Admission Committees.
- Communicate admissions process information with internal and external constituents as appropriate and necessary.
- Advise undergraduate students interested in the General Business Minor on benefits and academic requirements.
- Oversee the reporting and analysis of admissions cycle data.
- Collaborate with Student Success colleagues on new student onboarding and transition to matriculation.
- Facilitate the establishment of a pipeline of students from Minor programs into applying to graduate programs within McIntire.
Minimum Qualifications
- An appreciation for the discipline of commerce and how it may be used as a catalyst for change.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, high level of accuracy, attention to detail and creativity.
- Expertise in using data and conducting analysis to understand and respond to trends by making both programming and operational changes.
- Aptitude to learn and communicate Commerce School requirements, curriculum, and educational trends.
- Exceptional skill in working effectively undergraduate students of all backgrounds and their families in championing the McIntire School.
- Capacity to work in a fast pace environment managing multiple projects, prioritize a variety of responsibilities and work efficiently within and across teams.
- Proficiency with MS Office suite programs, including Office 365, and have experience with or the ability to learn the Slate admissions system and other platforms as needed.
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree and at least 7 years of experience in admissions, advising, recruiting, student affairs, or a related field within a higher education setting. A Master's degree in Higher Education, or a related field and 7 plus years of experienceis strongly preferred. Physical Demands This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. - This position is based in Charlottesville, Virginia, and is eligible for a hybrid work schedule following completion of required in-person training and with supervisor approval.
