We are seeking an Aerospace Systems Engineer who will lead the design, integration, verification, and support of single board computer (SBC) and ATE solutions for safety-critical aerospace and defense applications in rugged environments. This role requires hands-on systems engineering across electronics, mechanical packaging, cable/harness design, software coordination, and qualification testing to ensure reliable operation under extreme environmental and mission conditions. The Systems Engineer will lead the development, integration, verification, and sustainment of automated test equipment (ATE) used for aerospace development and production environments.

This role requires in-person support.

Duties:

  • Own system-level requirements for SBC-based avionics or embedded computing platforms and Automated Test Systems.
  • Translate customer, program, and certification needs into technical specifications, interface control documents, and verification plans.
  • Lead architecture definition for ruggedized compute modules, including processor boards, power interfaces, memory, I/O, thermal management, and enclosure integration.
  • Coordinate cross-functional design efforts across electronics, mechanical, firmware/software, cable/harness, and manufacturing teams.
  • Define system-level requirements for automated test equipment, test stations, fixtures, and support hardware.
  • Lead design and integration of test solutions for electronic assemblies, electro-mechanical subassemblies, cables, harnesses, and complete systems.
  • Evaluate and select test equipment, instruments, connectors, fixturing, and environmental interfaces.
  • Support hardware/software integration for test systems, including instrumentation, data acquisition, control logic, and automated test scripts.
  • Support qualification of test equipment for vibration, thermal, EMI/EMC, shock, and other aerospace environmental conditions.
  • Ensure design compliance with environmental, reliability, safety, and maintainability requirements.
  • Support trade studies for component selection, form factor, power budget, thermal performance, obsolescence, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Support failure analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective action implementation.
  • Plan and execute verification and validation activities, including analysis, inspection, test, and demonstration.
  • Support qualification testing for vibration, shock, thermal cycling, humidity, EMI/EMC, altitude, and other aerospace environmental conditions.
  • Participate in design reviews, configuration control boards, and program technical reviews.
  • Work with software teams to define boot, operating system, driver, middleware, diagnostics, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Ensure traceability from requirements through implementation, test, and acceptance.
  • Support supplier management, hardware procurement, and production readiness for rugged SBC assemblies.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical field.

Required Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in aerospace, defense, or other safety-critical embedded systems development.
  • Experience with SBCs, embedded processing platforms, avionics electronics, or rugged compute architectures.
  • Experience with safety-critical standards and aerospace qualification practices.
  • Experience developing or supporting automated test equipment, test stations, or test fixtures.
  • Strong understanding of electronics, mechanical integration, cable/harness design, and environmental qualification.
  • Background in fixture design, cable design, or ruggedized test system packaging.
  • Working knowledge of requirements management, configuration management, and verification planning.
  • Familiarity with software/hardware integration, embedded Linux or real-time operating systems, and board-level diagnostics.
  • Ability to read schematics, interface drawings, mechanical layouts, and test reports.
  • Knowledge of configuration management, requirements management, and verification traceability.
  • Experience supporting production ramp-up and test system sustainment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams and suppliers.
  • Excellent technical communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ruggedized electronics for flight, ground, mission systems, or military applications.
  • Experience with automated test software development using Python, C++, LabVIEW, TestStand, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with SCPI, VISA, PyVISA, Ethernet, CAN, RS-422/485, SPI, or similar interfaces.
  • Familiarity with DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, ARP4754A, ARP4761, or similar frameworks.
  • Background in thermal design, vibration mitigation, EMI/EMC control, or reliability engineering.
  • Experience with PCB design workflows, connector selection, and high-reliability harnessing.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity, secure boot, or software assurance for embedded systems.
  • Prior experience supporting low-rate initial production or full-rate production transitions.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop systems, functional test, acceptance test, or burn-in test.
