The UNC School of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, located in Chapel Hill, NC, is seeking a fellowship-trained Neurotologist to join our dynamic and collaborative team. This full-time faculty position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to both clinical excellence and research innovation, with an anticipated 50:50 split between patient care and dedicated research time.

Clinical responsibilities will include the diagnosis and management of complex otologic and lateral skull base disorders, including hearing loss, vestibular dysfunction, chronic ear disease, acoustic neuromas, and other tumors of the cerebellopontine angle. The candidate should have a strong interest in cochlear implantation and outcomes research and will be expected to contribute to ongoing research initiatives in this area. It is anticipated the candidate will apply and successfully obtain extramural funding to complement the research portion of their salary.

The position also includes opportunities for teaching and mentoring residents, fellows, and medical students, as well as participating in multidisciplinary care teams and academic collaborations across the UNC Health system.

  • Candidates must have an M.D., D.O. or equivalent.
  • Graduate of ACGME-approved Neurotology fellowship
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine within the state of North Carolina.
  • Board certified in Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery.
  • Board eligible or board subspecialty certified in Neurotology
  • Background in cochlear implants outcome research

50% Clinical:

Faculty members that provide clinical/patient care services, specific to an academic school. Clinical assignments may be categorized as either service or teaching.

50% Research:

Faculty members engage in the work of discovering, disseminating, and applying knowledge and professional expertise. These activities may include (but are not limited to) working in laboratories, studios, clinical or community settings conducting empirical and/or theoretical research, engaging in development or translational work, and/or producing creative works. Toward that end, faculty write articles, books, monographs, and grant proposals, write patents, develop intellectual property, edit scholarly journals, prepare juried art exhibits, direct centers and institutes, or perform in plays, concerts, or musical recitals. These research/creative activities have significant implications for teaching. They enable faculty members to design course materials that reflect their respective fields' state-of-the-art and cutting-edge knowledge. Successful extramural funding is expected to support candidates research effort.
