Summary:

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is a key member of the Employee & Occupational Health team, providing clinical and administrative support to deliver comprehensive occupational health, employee wellness, and on-site urgent care services. The CMA partners with providers and interdisciplinary team members to promote the health, safety, and well-being of employees while supporting regulatory compliance, injury prevention, and efficient delivery of care. Through compassionate service, attention to detail, and clinical excellence, the CMA helps ensure employees receive timely, high-quality care that supports a healthy workforce and organizational success. The Medical Assistant in Employee Health practices under the direction and supervision of the Director and/or Provider.

Responsibilities:

1. Receives and directs phone calls, schedule appointments, check-in patients, obtain necessary patient information to file and update patient records, collect payments (when required), and ensure all forms and consents are completed by patients.

2. Performs basic patient assessment including body weight, height, vital signs and current medications. Verifies patient information and enters information into the medical record.

3. Reports all changes in patients' condition to the health care provider.

4. Performs specific procedures such as venipuncture or capillary puncture and tests on patients as directed by the Provider.

5. Assists Providers during patient examination and procedures.

6. Performs instrument and room cleanup following patient discharge.

7. Aids in maintaining supplies and clinical emergency equipment.

8. Ensures exam rooms are properly stocked.

9. Ensures supplies are not expired.

10. Participates in in-service programs, staff meetings, and other required programs.

11. Performs other job-related duties as needed.

12. Accurately collects and labels specimens prior to sending them to the lab for testing and results.

13. Ensures a safe, clean, and orderly environment for self, patients, and teammates.

14. Ensures a collaborative environment by demonstrating cooperative, constructive, problem-solving interactions with all teammates.

15. Maintains accurate, detailed, confidential patient information in spreadsheets to facilitate the complex care management program.

16. Provides assistance and customer service to patients and visitors.

17. Develops rapport and trust with patients and visitors.

18. Follows behavior expectations and utilizes Carolina Care techniques.

19. Supports the mission, vision, values, and strategic goals of UNC Health Lenoir and the UNC Health System.

20. Complies with the UNC Health Lenoir's Code of Conduct and all policies, procedures, and regulations.

21. Performs a variety of related duties as assigned.

22. Meets all annual training, health and safety requirements.

23. Demonstrates regular, reliable, and dependable attendance.

24. As needed, may be required to work:

a. on weekdays, weekends, evenings.

b. during disaster situations, i.e., before, during, or after a disaster or inclement weather (hurricane, flood, snowstorm, etc.).

c. additional hours after scheduled workday or shift based on operational needs.

EDUCATION

* High school diploma or GED required.

* Completion of an accredited medical assistant certification program.

EXPERIENCE

* At least one (1) year in a healthcare setting preferred

LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION

* Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) certification required.

* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

* Respiratory Fit Testing as defined by OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard required annually.
