Job Description

The College of Education at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible Visiting Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator for the Bachelor of Educational Studies (BES) Program, beginning Fall 2026.

This twelve-month, non-tenure-track faculty position offers an exciting opportunity to lead and advance an innovative undergraduate program that prepares students to promote learning, development, and community engagement beyond traditional K-12 settings.

The successful candidate will provide leadership for the BES program while teaching undergraduate courses, supporting internships, building community partnerships, and contributing to student recruitment and retention efforts. The position is ideal for an educator who values experiential learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and meaningful community engagement.

About the Bachelor of Educational Studies Program

The Bachelor of Educational Studies program is designed for students who are passionate about learning, community impact, and educational opportunities beyond traditional classrooms. Through experiential learning and internships, students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to support learning across a variety of community settings.

Students pursue one of four emphasis areas:

  • Early Childhood
  • Exercise Science and Wellness
  • Park and Museum Studies
  • Youth and Adult Development

Through partnerships with community organizations, students gain practical experience while preparing for careers that foster learning, development, and social impact.

Position Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses each fall and spring, commensurate with the faculty member's expertise. Supervision of students over the summer semester.
  • Supervise students completing Internships.
  • Developing and fostering clinical placement partnerships.
  • Supervise and support undergraduate students.
  • Demonstrate a willingness and ability to collaborate with colleagues to support the mission of the institution and the College of Education.
  • Demonstrate/support the College's dedication and commitment to culturally-responsive practices
  • Contribute to a welcoming culture in the program and college.
  • Serve on committees at the university and college level, as well as in the community.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Education or a closely related field by the start date.
  • Demonstrated experience with experiential learning, community engagement, internship coordination, or related educational experiences.
  • Evidence of successful teaching, mentoring, or student development in higher education or related professional settings.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Background in Early Childhood Education, Physical Education, Exercise Science, Youth Development, Educational Studies, Recreation/Park Management, Museum Education, Human Development, or related fields.
  • Experience supervising internships, clinical experiences, or field-based learning.
  • Experience with academic program coordination, assessment, accreditation, or curriculum development.
  • Active engagement in professional organizations relevant to the discipline.

Other Helpful Information

This position reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Education Sciences and Professional Programs. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. This is a full-time 100% FTE benefits-eligible position. This position has no rights to tenure at the University of Missouri- St. Louis. Appointment is a twelve month, visiting faculty position.

  • Position is on-site with some flexibility for hybrid.
